Just saw Tame Impala live (in Pittsburgh). Holy poo poo, I went into the show with middling expectations (and this is from a fan) and was totally blown away. They are much heavier live. Go see them if they're coming to your city on their current tour.

I agree. I saw them at Sasquatch and it was the best show of the weekend for me, even including my friend getting to do a song with Kendrick. They sound really really good and do some dope arrangements of their songs.

I want to see them in DC but it finally sold out as I held off trying to get some cheap tickets on stubhub - some where $35 at one point (50+ on ticketmaster) but now they are up to over $100 and its sold out. Bleh.

Question. Going to a music festival this weekend where Father John Misty plays at 4 and Temples plays at 430. Anybody seen either of these guys live that can give some input as to how good of a show they put on that might make me lean towards one or the other cause right now I'm split

Father John Misty. 100%. He is great live, even if you're not super into his music. Temples are pretty blah live.

I've never managed to see The Decemberists live, so I'm going up there. But FJM was the driving factor.

E: just be aware when you see him that his fans are generally insufferable.

How so? There was a weeknight show that I skipped out on here that I really had to struggle with.

FJM is a pretentious, artsy gently caress. But he has extraordinary talent to back it up. His fans, by and large, do not.

It's anecdotal, but he headlined at the 9:30 Club last year on a weekday and it was pretty empty. I could hear everyone's conversations, even while he was performing. They were just all too cool to care and it was a hipster nightmare. And I go there enough to know the crowd v. venue. So yeah, I'll see him every chance I get but be ready to get annoyed at people.

It was empty? that show sold out really fast so I didn't go. Hope you are under the pavilion for tonight, hahaha (rain) :smug:

I'd feel pretty bad for anyone who was seeing Temples while FJM was playing.

Also, I am having a polyamorous relationship with the new Unknown Mortal Orchestra album. It's really good. Maybe my favorite thing I've listened to so far this year.

It helps that FJM also has a song on his new album that is literally about how lovely some of his fans/acquaintances are, that he also plays regularly at his live shows.

I'm chimin' in as FJM super-fan with a tattoo that he drew on me two years ago. FJM is the best live show I've ever experienced. The band is aces and now that DAVID VANDERVELDE(check out 'Moonstation House Band') is touring as his guitarist there is no reason' to miss 'em. I'm excited to see FJM in October. Wish I could have seen him sooner but things happen and junk.

I really dig the new UMO but I've regrettably burned myself out on Multi-Love and Checkin' My Phone.

Yeah. I ended up staying for all of FJM and still ended up being able to catch temples. Temples were alright but FJM was just loving great.

Tame Impala in the pouring rain as the sun was setting was just loving incredible, though, even with some sound issues at the start and a shortened set due to lightning. Magical.

I saw Purity Ring last night and really enjoyed their set. Their light show is amazing and they sounded really well live. Though I wonder how much of it was live because they sounded like studio quality.

I wasn't too into Braids at first, partially because the lead singers voice was really struggling from some throat infection. It wasn't until the last song, though, when the drummer went into a crazy set and it was great. I might have to check more of them out.

So there is this amazing francophone indie artist in Québec called Cœur de Pirate and she recently released a new single which is great, and it's a big deal because she released an english version too which is quite rare!

Yeah, it's alright but it didn't have that instant wow factor for me that Benji did. There are a lot of food references on that album.

A friend of mine is a French major and said that for one of her classes they had to translate a french song. A lot of people did Coeur de pirate. I really like this song, as it's much more upbeat and poppy than her older stuff. New album out in August would love it if it was more of the same.

That's how I found out about Cœur de pirate in the first place too! It was French 12 though, not a university major. She's completely awesome, I love all her songs, I highly recommend people check them out even if they don't understand french!

I actually think the french lyrics bring more meaning to the song, when translated literally too.

I was watching cartoon network at a friends house as she is a big Steven Universe fan. One of the commercials had Class Historian by Broncho as a a song in the backround. Something about bears being stacked and wandering around. Always fun when you hear an indie song in a completely unexpected place.

I like this a lot more than Cream on Chrome, it sounds different enough from their usual routine but has enough recognizable bits to mark it as a Ratatat song.
