Yeah, alchemy changed between Witcher games. It goes like this:

Craft potion once: you have it forever. If you need to refill, as long as there's alcohol in your inventory, your potions refill.

There are formulas that allow you to upgrade a potion, once upgraded they stay upgraded.

Decorations are super potions that have extreme toxic effects but also extreme benefits. Trickier to craft but they also refill like regular potions now.

I can't even see all three of them at once so one of them hit me from off screen while I try to use a sign or something.

I didn't realize this until afterwards, but if you talk to Cleaver in the bath-house, he'll send you on a questline that will reward you with a bunch of dwarves as backup in either the casino or arena fights. Now if only it would stop doing it for every item. It takes so much effort to upgrade Mutagens because I have to keep dropping them, then sifting though my pile of same looking icons to make sure I have the right ones still.

Also is there any reason to hold onto the MONSTERNAME mutagens after I have crafted their Decorations? They are chewing up space and are worse then killing a few Neckers and upgrading a Minor COLOURNAME Mutagen.

I got past the casino fight by picking different dialogue options, which got me a fight with way more open but in a more wide open area, so I could actually dodge around and stuff. I'm stuck at a different problem now. I'm on the part of the question in junior's arena that says "Search the arena for information about Whoreson." There's no yellow area on the map to focus the search so I've been looking around the place and can't find what the quest wants me to see. What am I supposed to look for here?

Probably not in the same game.

It took me quite a while after White Orchard to actually start winning at Gwent. The monster decks in particular are ruinous until you pick up some decent cards to deal with them. After a while they're a bit trivial but opponents are tough with just the starter deck.

Levantine

Gwent outright sucks before you get some cards. The best way to do Gwent (kind of min-maxxy) is to travel to every town/city with a bar, buy cards and buff up your deck before you get started. Otherwise, you can rely on weather to beat monster decks but that's hit or miss too. Until you get spies/decoys, it's hard to win against anyone, let alone the big boys.

I am such poo poo at Gwent and I've got all these fuckin Gwent quests that will just stay in my log forever and arggghhh I wish you could abandon quests in this gameeee

Here's how I win Gwent:

Try to have a spy card in my hand. The more the better. Depending on the other deck, try to get a good weather card. Like for monsters, bitter cold is great. Also try to have a card that lets you draw a discarded one when you play it, and also try to have a decoy.

The first round, I just throw it. I play all my spy cards. If they throw a spy on me and I have decoy, I use decoy to take that card and play it right back. Usually this means I'll have at least 12 cards and usually the opponent has wasted 1 or 2.

So now you've got an advantage with card numbers. I'm still using the Northern Realms deck, so that also has a chance to randomly draw another card.

Now just play smart. Don't throw out the strongest cards and try to spread them out in case they have scorch or a weather card. Usually they will give up quickly in the second round, and I'll still have a card advantage.

Then the end round I usually have 3-4 more cards than they do and can win by playing smart.

I've beaten decks I've had no business of beating by doing this. Like one monster deck had about 100 points in the front row, and they ran out of cards. So I just used bitter cold and had strong enough cards in reserve to beat that score.

Biden has sat immobile on the Iron Throne of America. He is the Master of Malarkey by the will of the gods, and master of a million votes by the might of his inexhaustible calamari.
For your starting northern deck, getting as many blue stripes and crinford reavers as you can, then holding them in reserve can really make the difference. Even if they hit them with weather, the bonus remains so they're not completely nerfed. And if you horn them each card can be worth a ridiculous point value. Horned 3x Crinfords are worth twice their number in hero cards.

But the key is you have to keep and play them together. If you have a medic you can play one early and then resurrect it later, but otherwise splitting them between rounds should be a last-resort option.

PFIs are also useful for going against monster decks if you also frost the row due to their bonus.

Verranicus posted:

Pretty much. Geralt is basically "WTF" through the entire path, and then has a chat with the tree. For a first time player it would be a bit difficult to do, but I deliberately tried to play the Velen story out of order....and hilariously, Ciri's story was told completely in order because of it. Makes me wonder about how this was planned by CDPR.

Put 3x decoy 3x scorch 3x commander's horn in your deck, choose Nilfgaard, use all the OP heroes (Geralt, Ciri, Yen, Coehoorn, Avallac'h), put all the spies you can have in your deck as well as all the medics, 4x impera brigade, those 10 strength archers and heavy scorpion, 2x young emissaries, Villentretenmerth . Fill the rest with a mix of other cards that you can revive or some 10 strength heroes if you want.
At its base, it's still luck-based so if you draw a lovely hand just try to clutch it out or restart.
Before you have enough cards to make Nilfgaard good, you can run a North deck with all three spies and some Biting Frost to gently caress over monsters, that should be enough to beat most non-spy spammer opponents.

Gwent tips:

- Spies are your most powerful cards. If you can, save your Decoys to use on any Spies your opponent plays on you. You can throw the first round and end up with like 13 cards to your opponent's 8.

- You can also use Healers to bring back cards with Spy/Scorch, and their effects DO occur. I don't think you can chain healers together, though.

- You can bait Scorch effects by playing out 2-3 cards with different power, and weather effects by playing one in each row.

- My deck has 2x Decoy, 2x Commander's Horn, and the 22 strongest cards I have, except for 3 of the 4-power Tight Bond soldiers over some random 5 and 6 power dudes. Cut all your weather effects unless you have a leader that can cheat them into play (and if you do, remember to throw them back if they're in your opening hand).

- If you know you're going to lose a round, use your decoys to get back any useful soldiers.

The game is really not hard, you just need to plan ahead and know when to give up a round in exchange for having a huge advantage in the match.
