Takoluka posted:I'm curious about this. Basically from what I recall: The way it works is that the Japanese version is basically a rom of the Japanese version running in an emulator. For the english version rather than it being an English version they set it up so that it patches the Japanese version of the game on the fly instead. So the loading time is a result of that.

Cartridge games have instant loading, and the PS1 didn't have enough memory to have the entire game loaded into memory to simulate the SNES's load times. The patching on the fly just made it worse, and they clearly didn't/couldn't optimize it at all so we ended up with 4 second load times just to open the menu. Will there be any new trailers for E3?

I like Mega Man 7 and 8 too (yes I actually like MM8, I know, I need to turn in my Mega Man badge) and I am disappointed that they aren't in the collection but I can also think of some decent reasons why they aren't included (budget, price point, consistency, not wanting to have to revamp games for a different console) but it's also really kinda senseless to get all up in arms about this. I know being an idiot who screams is your M.O. but take a chill pill man, it's just vidya games. I would really love to get portable versions of 7-10 though. That, or at least a steam version. And for the longest time I've wanted hacked versions of 9 and 10 where Mega Man can charge and slide. Yes, I know Protoman can do it. But I wish Mega Man could, too!

Vaguely relevant: Shantae Half-Genie Hero (the KS game) got a new playable build for E3 and it's available to a certain tier of KS backers, too. Here's the trailer and some footage; they're doing 2D-on-3D a la Ducktales Remastered but it looks much better this time, I think: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szhhFGQ3rl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gO9MIQpIwvw

It could look even more prettierer with "proper" 2d art but I fully understand why it's more convenient to do it in 2.5D or whatever it's called now.

Some questions: 1. It appears that section switches within a single game (such as the bossrushes) are not storing weapon energy alongside the switch- is that accurate? 2. Any chance of soliciting challenge ideas from the community? 3. Can the game store information on whether or not weapons were used or damage was taken during challenge mode?

Not sure if anyone else cares, but apparently Archie is putting the Mega Man comic on "indefinite hiatus" after issue 53. Rumor has it that it's due more to financial issues at Archie limiting how many series they can publish rather than sales figures or anything to do with Capcom. It wasn't perfect, but I really liked it and I'm bummed out now.
