That's it. Having been a courier before the start of the game could potentially disrupt people who come up with specific backstories like "tribal blundered into a post office and got offered a job in a wacky comedy of errors" or "Fallout 3 protagonist journeyed west on that steamboat from Point Lookout" so Lonesome Road "giving you a backstory" is kind of true in that sense.

I don't think they intended that feature to go beyond the one 'person' in the wasteland that has any kind of personal connection to who you were before the bombs fell and that people are reading too much into it. That's cool. They can get away with that with a robot much easier than a human. I hope the tutorial level involved you showing your baby how to do things. Press A to Encourage Son/Daughter. Then you leave your child and go on a wild quest. In the middle the flabbergasted child finds you in the wasteland and you ignore their plight to continue your own destiny, giving them crazy orders to do along the way. You Are The Dad. I also like how dumb the Enclave's plan to wipe out the local populace of D.C. was. You figure it would've been more efficient to just kill them all with their loving orbital weapons platform or send a few squads of power armor troopers with the most advanced technology in the wastes to clear out all the settlements and muties, instead of hoping that everyone is too stupid to realize the watering hole has been poisoned.

I'm guessing they'll arrange Xbox One mods as effectively free DLC (or paid if they reintroduced paid mods in the Steam Workshop for it) and maybe include an automatic conflict detector to let you know that poo poo's not gonna work. There's no reliable way to let people do load order changes on a console, at least not the average Joe who's going to be playing Fallout 4 (because, shockingly enough, the mass market AAA game is made to appeal to more than just grognards), so you'd have the game or console do all the behind the scenes work for you.

Yeah, the likelihood that Microsoft would let them put out that much free DLC is basically zero. It's gonna be paid, Beth and Valve have pretty much said so already in their statements about why Skyrim paid mods didn't work.

I don't have any problem with it. Eden's plan, however, will fail because there is a region-wide radio station that actively tells everyone not to drink the water after people start to get ill, and seeing as people have got by without the reservoir, it's not hard to just switch back to whatever they had. Also, if Eden's plan was to use the water to soften them up for an invasion, he also fails in that because most of his forces seem to be outright ignoring him.

If you poison the basin they can't use it as a bargaining chip and method of control over the wasteland populace anymore, and also lose any hope of support or hearts and minds so the only option left is termination by force. Fallout 3's story could have been pretty good if they had opened it up a bit more.
