I've been re-watching some more Yu Yu Hakusho, and the fights so far just seem kind of bad. Granted, I'm just up to Hiei, which is the second real fight, but it's just sort of been Yosuke getting the poo poo beat out of him before doing the one thing that allows him to insta-win. I just wanted to mention that it really bothers me how, in 12 Kingdoms (Juuni Kokuki), Kirin supposedly always choose the best rulers, but Youko's predecessor was insane pretty much from the beginning and started executing and exiling all women in the kingdom because she was afraid that her Kirin (who she was in love with) would fall in love with them. It wouldn't be as big of a deal if they didn't repeatedly have multiple characters tell Youko how she is definitely, without a doubt, the best person to be Queen of Kei because otherwise the Kirin (the same one that chose the crazy previous queen) wouldn't have chosen her. Great series otherwise, though.

Manga sometimes gets all melodramatic, the anime cuts down a fair bit of that, along with some crazy dumb poo poo. (Like the fact that apparently the bronze saints are all brothers. Not that the manga is bad, but the anime is better. E.: I like Saint Seiya, but I really can't understand why it's so popular, by the way. It's generic shonen number twentythousandonehundredseventyfive, and yet it has a million spinoffs and side stories

Think of it like an aptitude test. The previous queen scored highest but when actually put under pressure she went insane It's been a while since I watched it but iirc the country was in decline before the insane queen and it might also be that the country actually needed someone to completely gently caress poo poo up in order for Youkou to come along and rebuild the relationship between the ruler and people from the ground up
