drat. Mom burned herself pretty good earlier - steam burn on her forearm.

Stepdad said "that's not a burn" and just walked off and went to bed. :fuckoff: I was saying it looked like a decent second degree burn. Oddly, her insurance doesn't cover urgent care (Medicare) - only ERs and normal doctor visits (burn happened during business hours for urgent care).

Blisters have already started showing up (it's been about 4 hours), so it's at least a moderate second degree burn.

I'm encouraging her to get medical attention for it tonight or first thing in the morning. For now she's put some antibacterial ointment on it, and had me wrap it lightly with gauze. It's sensitive enough that even air movement causes pain. :ohdear: Normally I wouldn't be so worried, even with it being 2nd degree, but it's a pretty large burn (covers one side of her forearm and most of her hand).

I don't know what the hell came over me today, but on my way to class I just got incredibly loving tired.

Parked in the parking garage (I usually get there at least an hour early, today was no exception), set an alarm on my phone for 5:50pm, put the a/c on fresh air instead of recirculate, and leaned the seat back so I could take an hour nap.

... woke up at nearly 8. Surprised how little gas the car used idling with the a/c on for 3 hours, the gauge barely moved. Can't even get into the building after 6:30, so I came home. Just as well, still exhausted.

This was me before I had a sleep study done and found that I had severe sleep apnea and wasn't getting 'good' sleep, pretty much ever. I now have a CPAP machine that I get to sleep with, and while it kind of sucks to have to sleep with a mask on, I got used to it very quickly, and having proper sleep did AMAZING things for my quality of life.

The way you've posted before about your sleep issues, and this 'sudden exhaustion' thing, is just a dead-ringer for how I was sleeping/feeling before.

Renew AAA, opt for roadside with insurance, or ... ?

Looking through the insurance binder, they can't raise my rates for making a roadside claim, though I do have a limit of 4 claims in 36 months, at which point they remove roadside. $4/month for their top tier, includes 100 miles of towing, up to $500 to cover hotels/food if I get stuck out of town.

AAA Plus - 4 claims per year, towing up to 100 miles. $100/year, plus $30 per person if you're covering more than 1 person. Similar other benefits.

Both allow me to use my benefit if I'm riding with someone else, but that limit of 4 claims in 3 years with my insurance has me a little gunshy.

Then there's...

AutoVantage. $69/yr, 150 mile tow radius, covers the entire house. I'm definitely gunshy on this one, since they rock the "AS SEEN ON TV!!1!11!" logo on their website, sell memberships at Wal-Mart, and do very heavy TV advertising.

My car is the newest and lowest mileage in the house - 2006 with 117k. Mom's is a 2003 with 155k, stepdad's is a 2001 with 130k. I do the most driving by far, but I'm only concerned with towing (and I would want it towed home, not to an "authorized repair facility", which seems to be a sticking point for a lot of roadside assistance programs). Mom doesn't stray out of DFW much, she's mostly concerned with jump starts and tows.

It's more for E/N but whatever y'all can share in my :psyduck:

Our first date went great. We hit it off, had a great time, were both engaging and had very similar interests. Didn't have to think about making conversation because it happened naturally.

Yesterday, she was just awkward and stand-offish the entire second date. I could tell she was nervous so I did my best to guide the conversation to topics she might be more comfortable with. She eased up after that, but still just no more personality whatsoever. I should have ended it there, but I'm new at this.

At the end of the date I say we should have some beers at my place. She seems to be into the idea, we make out some, hey there's the chemistry again finally.

We head back there, she gets awkward again, we're sitting on the couch, drink, talk, make out, and then she says "I'm not feeling it".

Okay, cool, would've been good to know earlier but no harm no foul.

Then she just sits there.

On the couch, right beside me.

I'm just waiting for her to, ya know, leave.

At this point I'm fully out of "keep the conversation rolling" mode I've been having to play the entire night, and she's doing her thing of being awkward.

Silence.

Five minutes roll by.

I ask "So what now?"

She says "Your dog is really nice"

"Thanks. You should leave."

I've been looking at AAA lately since my insurance towing is more for short distance towing and they're being a pain in the rear end to deal with on the last tow. The M's are good with the collector insurance towing but the rest of the stuff is kind of questionable.

Wow that's pretty rough. If my dates this weekend go lovely I'll have to share.

Besides, the car has OnStar, and a modern ECU with plenty of data logging capabilities - I'm sure it already has some form of mini black box in the ECU that logs stuff like throttle position, speed, etc leading up to an accident. If I had OnStar enabled, I know part of what it sends out in an accident report is GPS location, vehicle speed, whether brakes were used, which airbags deployed, if the car was spun around or rolled over, what direction the impact came from, which seats were occupied, which seatbelts were fastened, etc etc etc. If an insurance company or police department wants to reconstruct an accident, all of the data they would need is already there, and can usually be accessed without a warrant.

Not sure if the onstar part involves the ECU, I'd have to look up the wiring diagrams and read up on the general architecture of your vehicle electrical system and CAN bus + firmware to answer that.

However, I can tell you that 99% of the time, accident data reconstruction is based on data logged in the ACU (airbag control unit.) The ACU logs almost all the stuff you mentioned plus a bit more. ECU really only cares about the engine. If it's a combined engine/trans control system, it's generally termed a PCM (powertrain control module) or VCM (vehicle control module) and does all the same stuff as an ECU, TCU, and sometimes ABS HCU, combined.

I mean, in the media you kind of expect it because the media is really sensational; but what's sensational in the media for most of the country is Tuesday for us here in the South. It happens all the loving time and arguing against it is an exercise in futility.

Pro-tip: When they say, "I mean, I'm just talking back about the good ol' days of the South..." If you respond with, "What, back when cops beat up black people for no reason?" or "Back when there was human enslavement and abuse?" They get real pissed off. Doubly so when you try to argue that Mayberry was a work of fiction. :v:

E: They really can't grasp that the heritage thing is about like flying a Nazi flag and arguing that it's about industrialization and efficiency or something.

No, it gets better than that: Not even 60 years ago, it was basically legal to lynch blacks, and this happened wholesale in the 40s and 50s even until the Federal Government finally got off their rear end and started prosecuting during the Civil Rights era, and yet they look at you all cross eyed if you explain why SOME people don't find the flag very appealing to be flying around.

Its even more hilarious because a lot of these chucklefucks would be doing the same poo poo ISIS does if they didn't fear retribution or legal consequences.
