MOM WAS RIGHT
I have friends who are comedians, who try every loving day, very hard, not to end up being an "ironic" act like Stewart Lee -- they may be awful comedians right now, but they actually put some loving effort into engaging their audience instead of some beyond-the-looking-glass anti-humorist schlock, attempting to ape the style of Andy Kaufman, but failing to commit fully and only playing the puppetmaster-defense when their schtick isn't working.

Jerry Lewis never glanced over at the audience to say, "Don't worry, I didn't ACTUALLY hurt myself," and it's baffling and patronizing to have an act that says "I'm pretending to be more upset and sardonic than I actually believe," try to convince me that's the case only when the audience doesn't laugh.

There's nothing clever or funny about that; you're my endless loving font of schadenfreude, because you refuse to understand that even if Stewart Lee could be considered a comedian, that form of comedy would be completely lost on the person who would watch an hour of cock-jokes revolving around cars.

OK, this baffles me., I've heard that term a lot over the years and don't understand it. Wouldn't Public School boys be less posh cos their parents cannot afford a private school education? I'm not trying to be funny or ironic. I just cannot figure it out. Private school kids here are the posh, public is paid by the government.

Public school relates to a bunch of ye olde very posh boarding schools for rich people. We also have private schools which are kinda the same thing but not as well connected, the differentiation being public schools are open to any race, colour, creed providing you have the cash but private schools can have rules about who they let in.

Regular-rear end schools are just known as schools, or state- funded schools.

You immediately assume everyone expressing an opinion against Stewart Lee is a frothing at the mouth lunatic hammering at their keyboard, when the only frothing at the mouth lunatic hammering on a keyboard I've seen in the last few pages was when I read that article by Stewart Lee himself. And then you smugly call out goons for reacting to a television show while fervently defending an unfunny dude whose only claim to fame is doing the exact same thing, only in the most incoherent and embarrassing way possible. And then when someone rightfully points out what a raging hypocrite you are, you smugly pat yourself on the back for trolling everyone so hard by throwing down the puppetmaster card.

You seem to be the only one here who is "wound up" dude.

You cut me deep, man.

What's that saying about arguing with someone whose opinion differs from yours? Tends to galvanise their beliefs, right? I'm not here to convince anyone Lee is funny because I fully understand that people's taste in things is different and that's cool, those who like him get to enjoy his drug-fuelled rantings about pop culture among other things and those who don't like him don't have to. Everyone wins.

The bit that was making me lol was the reaction to someone very few people know talking poo poo about something they like.

And I never claimed to be trolling or have pulled a puppetmaster routine, just stating that people getting annoyed at someone that doesn't matter is silly, trivial, inconsequential. To end, a cartoon;

I totally agree with you on this. I think Stewart Lee is pretty bad, honestly, but if people enjoy his stuff then that's cool. I wouldn't want to take that away from anyone, just like I wouldn't want to take away anyone's right to dislike him.

But you seem very concerned with people not liking Stewart Lee, and then you post a little comic saying it's okay to not like things. You can't have it both ways.

If you go back and read what I've tapped into this keyboard you'll find I've never stated people are wrong for thinking he's poo poo or are 'concerned' about it, more explained that the way he does things is the way he's done things for years and his form of comedy is rather dark, bizarre and over the top and you should just not let it bother you.

I think it might be a 90 minute episode, it's two long specials/challenges and some in studio stuff with Hammond and May.

Cool thanks. I think there have been Top Gear DVD specials with only Hammond and May, and to be honest they don't work as well together than say May and Clarkson. Hopefully the specials will be enough on their own.

Clarkson, Hammond, and May are back.

Jeremy Clarkson has confirmed to the Sunday Times that he will return to TV with a new car show

Joining the bombastic Brit on the new show will be his former "Top Gear" co-hosts Richard Hammond and James May.

Although the publication reports that an announcement is expected in a matter of weeks, the exact network on which the show will air has yet to be confirmed,

However, sources told the Daily Mirror's Nigel Pauley that the ex-"Top Gear" trio— along with former showrunner Andy Wilman — are "very close" to a deal with Netflix.

Yup, agreed with you there. An amiable bloke, who knows his way round a spanner and I've always respected him for:

quote:

He was the RSPCA's chief veterinary advisor between 2007 and 2010, causing some controversy in August 2008 after branding show dogs and dog shows as a "parade of mutants", resulting in the RSPCA withdrawing its support that year to the annual Crufts dog show.[4]

Yeah, he's great, I'd happily see him on board. Or replacing Mike Brewer in anything he's involved in.

Same for Chris Barrie, too. He tends to end up playing characters who are kind of knobs, but he's a pretty cool guy. In fact, having the Red Dwarf guys do Top Gear as a group would work rather well...
