There's some guys you can interact with in the village, that will get you more info. Though I think you can also select the option "I don't care" in which case, not sure, maybe you miss out on it?

I'll give it another go tonight and see if im missing something obvious,

You aren't being a dumbass, there's a weird bug, on some machines the prompt on the pigs can get streamed out and doesn't re-enable. I've already fixed this, but I don't know when the patch goes out. Sorry for the inconvenience.

As someone pointed out when I posted about it earlier, yes Geralt is faking the "of Rivia" but he's also faking the way people from Rivia talk so that he sounds like he actually is from Rivia instead of Parts Unknown.

yeah i think it's less to do with Rivia than it is just a deliberate anachronism to make him a bit terser, a bit more gruff and to the point, like the noir detective stereotype they're aiming for it is preferable to something like "hark, 'pon the grass there lyeth a trail of scarlet, the left trigger must i hold"

The Witcher wiki claims that while Geralt chose the name himself, he was later formally knighted by the queen of Lyria after helping her in battle, granting him the noble title "of Rivia" for real. I don't remember anyone referencing to this event in the games, so perhaps CDPR retconned it for some reason?

When you go to Junior's casino and play people at Gwent, there's three potential opponents. Triss doesn't, Dandelion doesn't (in fact, Dandelion is my favorite voice in the game because he's literally just Some Dude), none of the witchers do. The Dwarves have the typical fantasy dwarf accent and all of Skellige talks like vikings or whatever. Geralt's voice only annoyed me in situations where he was supposed to be speaking up but he wasn't. One of the first things in the game you do is shout fighting instructions up at Ciri who is training. But she's up on a wall so he'd have to be yelling, instead he's still Batman Voicing the instructions to her and it's like bro, speak up a little

Guys, I think Geralt speaks like this because the devs thought it sounds cool and fits Geralt's personality and the voice actor was good so they went with it. I bet the etymology of a faked Rivian accent didn't come up during the decision process. Unless one of the Witcher games had a quest where somebody calls Geralt out on his accent or something.

Holy poo poo no way dude you don't say edit: It probably does happen in the books though. The books have many things happen in them that would be pertinent to know in the games but just don't ever come up for reasons unknown.

Most of the major NPCs, Triss, Yen, the Baron, etc, all talk like modern people. Only the peasants and a few random other people talk 'old tymey'. Also it's grating to hear Geralt's voice actor when I watch YouTube videos in English. It's like he swallowed a hedgehog before doing all his lines. His voice is normal "male hero" in French, like Nathan Drake or the guy from TLoU or whoever.
