That's cool and I'll link that in the OP, but it's far too much information for someone who just comes in fresh and wants to know "So what do I buy to set me on my way into this terrible hobby?" Anybody who's so deep into it that he's going to compare which sim has chassis flex is not going to be interested in the OP anyway :D

The orange/red is supposed to be the weak point, not "okay". I guess I should make that a proper red, eh? I think more granularity than +/0/- defeats the point of a quick overview, also it's easier to classify the games and doesn't have to be updated so often :)

pCars I can see getting a green in sound, but AC? Not to the point of "if you're really into car sound your decision should be weighted towards this game", I don't think.

Edit:

New version:

Renamed Online to MP Focus, because right now all of them have largely unremarkable online features aside from iRacing and possibly LFS. Btw, can someone fill me in on LFS?

Maybe a "Controller Support" column would be good? From what I gather pCars and R3E work rather well?

Wow, I had no idea there even were games that had "good" AI. I thought all AI was horrible in every game.

As for filling you in on LFS stuff:

Depenending on your criteria, LFS should get a green square in Hotlapping as well. I mean, I don't know how other games do it, but it has this online board for hotlaps, and the hotlapping part of the game lets you set your starting tire temp and custom starting position (so you don't have to do an entire outlap, or start where the game puts you).

Also what do you mean by controller support? People use whatever they want in LFS, keyboards, mice, whatever wheel, I use a 360 controller, hell I wouldn't be surprised if someones used a joystick.

Another thing that LFS has that not all other games have is driver swaps, giving LFS a history of endurance races spanning most of a decade.

Haven't played LFS in ages, but I'd make a few changes:
  • "Live" not "Life".
  • Hotlapping = Green; IIRC its implementation of this is actually quite good, especially in combination with the online service LFS World.
  • Sound = Red; the sound is completely synthesized and generated on the fly. This makes it respond really well to engine load and other simulated aspects, but the actual result is pretty terrible compared to real engine sounds.

Well, it is of course somewhat relative, but the idea is if someone tells me "I want to spent 90% of my time racing against AI" R3E and SCE would be the games (of the current crop) I would recommend.

I only have very little personal experience with a controller in pCars, AC and rF2 when I was waiting to set up my wheel again, and I found pCars okay, AC and rF2 virtually undrivable. I can't really say much about it, I didn't give it a fair try, I just thought it might be helpful for people who don't have a wheel but want to have a look.

LFS AI is trash imho, they hardly attempt to overtake, and even on the highest level are way way slower than competitive times. LFS should get red there.

Also LFS should get green in controllers, if that's your experience with other games. Like I said, people can drive on literally any setup, and be fast too.

I do like that you can literally hear the diff working, but yeah the synthesized sound is just that, synthesized. Also you should play again. The new Westhill is pretty amazing.

So in dirty rally is my in game steering wheel rotation not suppose to match my actual wheel or are my settings screwed up somewhere?

If you've got a 1080 or 900 degree rotation wheel I think soft lock in the FFB settings will change it to match the cars. Some are 540 and only the FIAT supports 1080 as far as I know. As for the in game graphical rotation it only goes to a certain point due to engine limitations apparently.

Illuminated Rodent

270 was before the FFB patch last week. According to the latest info https://www.dirtgame.com/uk/blog/4718 the soft locking should be matching up your wheel if the car you're driving has a lower rotation lock than your wheel. Feels about right for me when I'm driving the BMW but 720 to 900 might just be me not noticing it.

Put the matrix in the OP. I took out the red for pCars' AI because in the grand scheme of things it's just somewhat regular bad racing game AI, not the travesty that is AC's AI.

So this mod is doing the rounds as a major fix to Dirt Rally's FFB issues. I just downloaded it and tossed it in with the recommended settings and had an absolute blast driving a couple of Monte Carlo stages.

How much free space do you have on your C: drive? Even if the game isn't installed there it seems to be fairly common that error 41 is related to low space on C:.

I felt like I might have had a shot at this (Raize on leaderboards) since I was leading the Welsh event until the last stage where I got sideways and smacked a gate, but dang you have good pace. Also props to Great Joe for being the only Cosworth driver, that thing is a pig

Holy crap the CSW has power! Aside from the better FFB which was expected I'm suprised that just placing the car seems so much more precise. Did 2 hours of just hotlapping in AC and immediately pulverized all my previous times.

Goddammit, I want one :( hopefully our roof doesn't poo poo the bed until after I fill my piggy bank and order one... and hopefully they do a Black Friday sale that doesn't suck this year.

We closed on our house yesterday. First thing I did was change the locks. Second thing I did was tear apart my sim rig, haul it to the new place, and spraypaint the gently caress out of the PVC. Today I'll paint the wood parts... and probably do some moving prep, I suppose... but mainly paint the sim rig.

This feels like a bit of a game changer. After the FFB patch things still didn't quite feel right, but this is leaps and bounds better. With a T500RS I think a long stage in this game counts as a workout. By the time I'd finished the league events I had to hang out next to a fan for a while.

I still suck at RWD, except now I don't have the FFB to blame.
