Make it really a rare occurrence, so you can very rarely undertake a risky mission to capture and un-brainwash a muton or whatever, and he's a super soldier, but if he dies, chances are you aren't ever getting another one. Would make that particular character death, when/if it comes, really memorable.

so i started a new vanilla ew game after not playing xcom for a while i forgot how incredibly annoying the early game can be just as a result of los/cover issues edit: it's really just on a couple maps too, like that one daytime forest landed ufo one, where you start like, right next to the ufo and there's almost nothing like usable cover, and what little there is seems to keep your guys from seeing the aliens as they pile out of the clown car, but doesn't keep them from killing your guys yes, i may have just lost a whole team on that map, why do you ask? OpenXcom's AI is totally different and it has its own bugs still, including some rather annoying ones in 1.0. Probably still preferable, mind.

Dear William. Please stop staring at your loving feet when a Cyberdisk is 5 squares away from you. I know you just love the ground but look up for fucks sake! EDIT: One should remember when disassembling the Officer Training School so they can improve the design of their base that they should rebuild it otherwise have to do the mission with only 4 units. But okay, I need the MEC-Squad achievment anyway, and I have 4 MECs. Oh I forgot to give one of them a Particle cannon. Okay it's fine it's just a small scout- Oh crap I triggered the Cyberdisc and Muton Elites at the same time. Okay, I can fix this, pulling it out. And then the game crashed. EDIT: And I'm back to the beginning of the battleship. Is there a way to just console command this mission complete because I really don't want to slog through it again Onmi fucked around with this message at 11:22 on Jun 30, 2015 |

Thinking of giving long war another shot, who was it who kept posting alternative .ini files to change the difficulty/make it less of a slog/unfuck the airwar? If anyone wants to post anything regarding Long war and changing it up, that'd be great.

Thyrork posted:If anyone wants to post anything regarding Long war and changing it up, that'd be great. I always change the experience required for levelling from rookie to specialist to 10. It guarantees that a rookie will be promoted after surviving a mission, so you don't have to ration out your kills so that your rookies can all gain a level. Changing this one value doesn't effect any of the other levels, so the rest will feel the same. One thing to note though is that any soldiers that join AS specialists will only have 10XP. I could probably just increase the required amount to whatever the award for a single completed mission is, but I've never bothered. The line is m_iSoldierXPLevels=120; SPEC 120 is the value to change. Tirius fucked around with this message at 12:26 on Jun 30, 2015 |

There's a nexus link last page for the goon .ini, and of course you can make further changes yourself. There's also a way to change air war settings. Go to r/xcom, find Long War 101, it should be in the 15e compatible mods list.

Okay then, so 15 Alloy Cannons, 11 Heavy Plasma, 13 Sniper Rifles and then 21 Plasma Rifles for the 21 loving Supports I have. Then I have to get like Titan armor for my Supports and Assaults and maybe Heavies and then Archangel for my snipers. THEN I should be ready and prepped for the Alien base, because no matter what I'm doing I'll have a fully outfitted team for base assault! ... I think I have a problem.

How do you get arc throwers working in the pistol slot? I changed the type from wp_secondary to pistol, and they were able to equip them in the slot just fine. During the mission though the pistol slot has a blank icon and they don't actually get the stun ability. You can still swap to the arc thrower pressing x, and they pull it out, and the game even understands they're holding one by showing the stun range circles around enemies. The troops just can't actually stun anything.

Definitely caught me off guard in vanilla EW. I don't think all of my soldiers were immune but it was in a medium UFO and I left my squad wide open for a flank shot thinking it would just go for a strangle. Of course LW 'unshackled' their AI so they're very happy to just take the height advantage, flank aggressively and shoot at you regardless. dyzzy fucked around with this message at 16:28 on Jun 30, 2015 |

I could pretty much end the game now and not really worry. EDIT: I also have 20 Fire Storms, 2 on each continent armed with EMP cannons and the other two with Fusion cannons. I almost have 3 fully upgraded mechs and at least one soldier completely Gene-Modded. EDIT 2: It's also March of Year 2. I'm surprised the Council hasn't booted me to the curb for not dealing with the alien base we've had on radar forever. Onmi fucked around with this message at 16:39 on Jun 30, 2015 |
