I could see two types of red decks forming after Origins: a Goblin tribal-esque deck with all the usual players, and a 'Biggish' Red Aggro deck with Swiftspear, Zurgo, Flamewake, Thunderbreak, Dragon Whisperer, and this.

I guess you could hold up a burn spell on turn 2, but that seems pretty weak compared to casting a 2 drop and it also definitely doesn't work on the draw.

Really Boros is my jam and I can't wait to be able to play it in a non... basically Burn deck? Because that's what most RW decks are, All Red then Lightning Helix and Boros Charm.

Some person's translation:
3uu Creature - Human, Wizard 1, exile an instant or sorcery card from your graveyard, choose one: - counter target noncreature spell unless its controller pays 2 - Scholar of Rings gets +1/+1 EOT - Tap target creature - Untap target creature 3/4

The Abbot seems pretty decent, but awkward if you want to be playing on-curve. (Though if you hit a land and you've already used your land drop that's at least clearing it out.) The piker body isn't too bad with prowess on there.

Red getting a two-power Prowess duder for 2 is pretty cool. And it's serious gas if you play it later on while you have mana/land drops to spare.

I'm getting cautiously optimistic about the possibility of a viable U/R/x tempo deck in new standard. That Mage is great. I wish it could blink itself, but I'll take it.

That's different again though. First off that would turn a 4 choice card into a 5 choice card, or to keep it at 4 choices it would cut another off. Secondly the way it is right now means that each cast of Kolaghan's command only deals damage once to one target. If the choice on deal 2 damage was listed as: >Deal 2 damage to target creature. >Deal 2 damage to target player. Then you could pick those two modes and deal 2 to a creature and 2 to their face. Eh a decent two drop (prowess is real nice) that acts as insurance against flood/red card advantage is pretty good. I wouldn't be surprised if he finds a place in constructed as a role player in some midrangey red deck.
