I went to the Solid Sound Festival in western Massachusetts this weekend. A great atmosphere (all over the grounds of a contemporary art museum), some good music (Cibo Matto, Real Estate, Wilco), and they had a pop-up record store/book shop from Euclid Records, based in St. Louis & New Orleans. A surprisingly good selection, I was particularly intrigued with the Pink Floyd bootleg selection - probably had about 6 or 8 different live recordings.

I ended up with this one, Nocturnal Submission. $50 is pretty steep, but I've never seen these before in person, I love this era of Pink Floyd, and while the sleeve is pretty dinged up, the records look unplayed.

Apparently they've got a Kickstarter and they're at $776,000!!! of their initial $50,00 offering.

I suppose in a way it looks cool, but is it really better than a traditional turntable? Maybe I don't get it.

It's bad and poo poo hope this helps :tipshat:

(If it doesn't use gravity for tracking then what the gently caress are they thinking?)

Do ANY vertical turntables use gravity for tracking? I don't see how they could without putting the arm at a harsh angle.

edit: guess I didn't get it.

Maybe that table has hidden cord routing going up one of the legs and he has a power outlet directly under it? Exactly the kind of genius that I'd expect from these guys.

I know what you did last summer, and frankly I am displeased.
For 400 dollars you can do a lot better than this gimmicky piece of poo poo that's probably on par with a Crosley. I'm also wondering how the tone arm stays on the record and if it requires heavier pressure than a normal turntable.

The tracking force is (dynamically) applied by a spring as opposed to the usual counterweights found in horizontal record players in which the arm is (statically) balanced. Spring loaded tracking force is beneficial in regards to consistency of the force applied—especially on warped records. Our tone-arms are factory-set at the optimal tracking force of ~2 gram
