So I'm thinking of working for Bernie Sanders campaign. My main question though is what is his plan for actually getting his ideas implemented? And what evidence do we have that he can work the system in Washington to get poo poo done? One thing that was great about Warren is not only does she have great ideas, she's shown she's savvy in getting stuff accomplished in Washington. And Hillary's policies might not be as good, but her and Bill know how to manipulate the system to their advantage, as was shown in the 90s.

I need to see evidence that Bernie knows how to work the system in Washington to get his ideas implemented.

One of the biggest impacts a President can have is executive appointments. Not just cabinet members, but a large number of senior positions across most federal agencies (https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/nominations-and-appointments). Who do you think would appoint more active SEC commissioners, Sanders or Clinton? How about the FTC, FCC, NLRB, etc?

The difference in judicial appointments would also be meaningful.

In their time (thus far, for Sanders) in congress:

Clinton sponsored 3 bills that eventually became law, none of which were cosponsored by republicans.

Yes, the idea that the GOP will more readily work with someone that calls himself a socialist than with someone with the surname of Clinton is totally reasonable and backed up by historical data.

People forget that Bernie's been in Congress since 1991, longer than the Clintons (or Obama) have been in DC, so he has plenty of experience and connections. I believe he has a good reputation with his colleagues as well.

People like him personally for the most part, but he's never anyone's first choice to work with. His office has historically been extraordinarily leaky and his name on a bill makes it harder to get R co-sponsors.

It's personal experience/anecdote, so nothing I can point anyone to. It wouldn't be an issue in a hypothetical Sanders presidency, since you'd probably see significant staff changes - it was more that his staff didn't really seem to understand the concept of not talking about things before they were public. I.e. not intentional leaks, just poor discipline.

There's not exactly a wiki page for who leaked what but if you just google his name and 'leaks' you'll see multiple articles about stuff. The biggest recent one was back in 2011 he leaked oil speculator information to a newspaper . The problem is he leaked their identities and poo poo too, and when people brought up 'hey you realize this is actually illegal to do' he just kinda waved it off because speculators are bad.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/08/19/us-cftc-dataleak-idUSTRE77I4NR20110819

Along with that, as said, he's not exactly a bipartisan guy, and his name on a bill is a great way to make Republican votes skitter away, so no he doesn't exactly have many bffs professionally speaking despite plenty of people going 'yea Bernie's a nice guy'.

I don't think that's a good metric to use, though. Sanders right now is not very visible. Republicans can work with him without getting a lot of heat for it, especially since the one bill that he sponsored was

quote:

S. 893: Veterans’ Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act of 2013

I'm not counting the 'name my post office this' bills.

But mainly, I don't think you can compare people's willingness to work with him as a senator with willingness to work with him as president, especially after a long campaign season of vilifying him.

This is not Sanders fault, in any way, shape, or form.
