Summertime 06 has the best production I've heard this year.

I don't know if I'd say best, but it's way up there. Somehow he got Clams Casino but Rocky didn't? I hope this album doesn't get lost in the shuffle, it seems like every other week there's another noteworthy release.

Still think the things that have gotten the most replay for me this year are Third Side of Tape and 56 Nights. Lucki Eck$ and Kendrick and Lupe too, but when I wanna just vibe out with something it's like LUM or Future's tapes are what I keep going back to.

My favorite song, followed closely by Summertime. I didn't like the beats on Hell Can Wait so it's cool seeing him getting better production.

It's 56 nights and beast mode for me by absolute blow out. Speaking of which, I see 56 nights mentioned often in this thread but seldom is there love for beast mode, which I think is the better collection as a whole (though 56 has better individual tracks). Am I alone?

Yeah, Summertime '06 is a seriously good album. Finally bought it on AmazonMP3 after streaming it from NPR a few times. There's a lotta message in here, and it's more like Tetsuo & Youth than anything else I've heard this year, in message, style, and production value.

I hadn't even watched the Seniorita video until today :stare:

Monster, 56 Nights + Beast Mode are all the best, in different ways. I guess it makes sense as each one is mostly a single producer (okay I guess Monster is pretty varied, but heavy Metro Boomin)

I liked Beast Mode better too. Aintchu, OHhhhh, and Layup are some of my favorite songs of the year.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Kd8UhANm9Q this especially there's a lot of depth to this song. Future's verse is more straightforward, sort of a checklist for aspiring hustlers. Then Juvenile comes in with just the slightest condescension in his voice, lines like: "You double cuppin' cuz you want us to know you been sippin' syrup aintchu?", "Got you that lil' ruger on you too you bout to use it aintchu?" It's really an observation on the caricatures people see in rap music and then try to emulate. Similar to Juvenile's "Ha" (although that was more for the everyman) and Clipse's "Ain't cha".

He is the converse of Big Sean—another guy who knows how to milk a Kanye co-sign for all it's worth—who raps like he is scrolling down an especially long iPhone note. Tyga raps like his bars are transcribed on the insides of fortune cookies that he must break open individually.

If you check their soundcloud/website they've actually dropped a few tracks this year and some "mini-EPs" (no d/l links unfortunately). I'm looking forward to their new tape but tbh I've not liked a lot of the stuff that they've put out this year, seems a change in style.

Also that pitchfork review was pretty funny, they just shredded Tyga's album (with good reason).

And I didn't really feel beast mode or monster, but 56 nights is crazy. I may go back and listen to the others just to see if maybe I wasn't digging the style at the time or something.
