Cilic finally wins in two games.

I think Isner got screwed though. In the first game back he had to hawkeye two bad calls that came when he was in a good position. Cilic was missing his first serve but the challenges gave him back a first serve.

Monfils did that a couple of days ago: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/tennis/33347068

Loooong break for Kvitova between 2nd and 3d set. Passed 7 minutes now. She better win this.

Petra's looking pensive out there, that's not really a good sign.

edit: She's going to need JJ's level to drop to win this, I think, since her own game has gone AWOL.

I am kinda hoping for Kvitova to go down in flames so the road for my girl Aga to earn the right to be obliterated by Serena is a little easier

I'm not that worried yet. Sure Petra has won her previous matches here in like 30 min but so often before in her history she goes away and comes back when it matters the most. 3 set queen.

E: what a way to burn a challenge and lose the point :(

Well there you go.

People were asking what could stop Kvitova and, as always, it was Kvitova herself.

I mean I can't see Aga completely turn around her habit of playing awful as of late and Woz or Keys... nah. It's up to Venus.

I could maybe see Bencic playing fearlessly and making a statement in the semis if she makes it that far, but... yeah. If Serena makes it past Venus she's essentially a lock for the title.

I actually don't really mind Serena winning that much (although in general I would very much like more variety in the slam winners on both tours), but I'd have loved for Petra to defend it. It'd be better if she was a consistent threat at the other majors but as it is you'd think her next shot is a year away.

Isn't that her only win against her in her career? And it was on clay.

Good Serena slaughters Kvitova. Bad Serena can lose to just about anyone. She nearly lost to really lovely player Heather Watson, for instance.

I don't remember the exact details but there was a whole situation that arose with one quarter of the draw where certain players (Wawrinka was one) had to play three matches in three days or something ridiculous like that because of bad scheduling, rain delays and the tradition of no play on the middle Sunday.

Sodium Chloride
Jan 1, 2008

I think that wasn't down to no Sunday play. Rain on Monday really fucks the schedule hard.

Sway Grunt

Yeah I might be remembering it wrong, I just recall a lot of people getting frustrated with Wimbledon's inflexibility, mostly regarding the middle Sunday, the implication being they should've rescheduled some of those delayed matches for that Sunday despite tradition. But last year the tournament got hit really hard with rain for sure. I'm just glad they are showing some flexibility tonight and actually moving the match to Centre.
