The batmobile is a constant presence, but it gets de-emphasized the further you get in the game. The first few hours really does feel like its batmobile all the time, every time.

Is there a way to disable sentry guns from a distance? Those drat things (and the cameras with the red lights) are making the militia checkpoints pretty drat difficult.

Nope. In fact, if you even want to fight the Riddler you have to do ALL of those goddamn things. I actually like the batmoobile drone fights but its use in the puzzles is just annoying.

You can blind them briefly by hacking, but that's it. REC and Disruptor are worthless.

Sometime there's a secondary panel to destroy a buncha the turrets, but there are a few where you have to blind the sentry and then take out the guards before it comes back.

If you don't set the Superman game on Earth then you can probably make the combat work. Superman isn't that strong when put against creatures like Robo. I'm not sure how you can make the flying work but it's essential that they do.

the beginning is the most batmobile heavy. once you get into a variety of other sidequests and poo poo like the zeppelin, the movie studios, etc etc the batmobile is used a bit less. I was ready to give up on the game because the batmobile was forced into poo poo so much in the first few hours. give it some time and it'll be less of a constant.

Instead of a bunch of lovely coy bullshit, I will say that, yes it calms down a bit, but not completely. There's some sections that do not involve the batmobile at all! But also there is other stuff with it that is dumb. Yeah, I felt exactly the same as you where it felt like I was just carrying the car around to solve puzzles in order to get the car further along but after ace that sort of feeling went away.

Regarding the Superman game chat a couple of pages ago:

Superman Returns, which is a very lovely game, actually had an interesting angle on how to handle "damage" with Superman. Instead of having a health bar for Superman, it had a health bar for, well, Metropolis. Basically, as enemies would trash the city (attack civilians, set fire to buildings, blow up cars), the "health" would go down. You could regain health by blowing out fires using Superman's super breath, or picking up wounded civilians and dropping them off by ambulances. When Kryptonite showed up, the big threat was that it would KO Superman for a significant amount of time, letting enemies run amok over the city. It wasn't perfect by any means, but it was the most interesting take on handling Superman in a video game that I've seen. I think that if a better team were to further expand on that idea, it could actually become something really effective.

And when Superman took damage, he took damage to his power meter and he'd be left stunned if it hit bottom. Interesting way of handling an indestructible protagonist.

Kinda wish Christina Mills had more screentime. She did a great Joker.

Now that I've hit the post-game wrap up/collectible hunting section I remember why I never like doing this in open world games. It's so drat lonely existing in a static world for so long after the story it's telling has been told. The main thing keeping me going at this point is the new thug dialogue, but even that's already started repeating itself.

It's a very unpleasant, game-y feeling that very few open world games manage to avoid. I think it's the lack of civilians/day to day life that does it. Once the story has been told and the reason for Gotham to be empty is over, it stops feeling like a place and starts feeling like a big, empty toy.

They could do a civilian populated Gotham. Just have it so you have to navigate most places by rooftops or gliding and if you try to drop down into a public area, you automatically get grappling gunned back up to the closest roof. You know, like what happens when you fall into water. It's probably easier than coming up with another contrived reason for why everyone has to leave Gotham.

If it wasn't open-world they could do it mission style, where you're ranked on how much trouble you cause while tracking down the bad guys.

"Spotted by civilians 356 times!"
"Took 234% total damage!"
"Dealt 1050% damage to enemies!"
"65 bones broken!"
"4 max freeflow combo string!"
"TIME: 12h, 47m"

RANK: WET FISH WITH AN XBOX CONTROLLER

edit: There is a Batman rank but it's unachievable by human means, you have to use cheat engine

I would much rather have Rocksteady take a stab at making an open-world Predator game. All they'd have to do is reskin the batarangs and stun guns into throwing discs and plasma-casters and we'd be good to go.

Are you on PC? I think I heard it had something to do with unlocking your framerate and the physics going wonky or something? (I personally didn't have any problems on PC, unlocked FPS when I did it at the time). If you're on console then, not sure why that would happen.
This turned out to be the fix, I re-edited the INI to put the framerate back at 30 fps and the puzzle worked first-try. Thanks a lot. I guess I'll just play it capped until they release the patch.

But now I see I've joined the list of people where the map shows I have no Riddler trophies left on Bleake Island but the list screen shows one missing, the middle box, top row second from the left. Does anyone know of a guide that shows which riddle each square on that screen corresponds to, so I can figure out which one it thinks I'm missing?

If Batman was a wanted vigilante, public exposure could initiate a police pursuit that necessitated escape.

It's MISSEL! Or SISSLE!
I confused myself...

Well, that was an awkward and annoying crash. I was in the tunnel system under Killingjoy's (or whatever that place is called) nearish the end of the game, and as I went in a tunnel, Batman's gauntlet beeped and flashed like he had a call so he went into that mode, but there was no graphic or dialogue/audio for a call. So I just had to walk around the small area until eventually most of the graphic randomly popped up. It didn't have Alfred's picture, just the background of the chat interface and there was still no dialogue/audio. I kept walking through the tunnel hoping the rest of it would pop up but it never did and I eventually got stuck on some geometry. I tried to quit to the main menu, but the screen just stayed black and never loaded back up. Then when I tried to force quit the game, it just stayed on the "closing game" screen and didn't do a drat thing, so I tried holding down the PS button even longer, which I guess shuts off the console because that's what it tried to do, so the picture went out but the console was still lit up like it was on and the controller was lit up but unresponsive, and the power button on the console itself didn't respond, so I had to pull the power cord.

That Gotham by Gaslight game that was sort of a proto-Arkham game would've been a pretty cool take, I think.

Mad Max is also coming and that's an interesting take on the Arkham series' gameplay as well, though that one's just the WB branch that did Arkham with Avalanche (creators of the Just Cause games), no Rocksteady.
