Obviously the modern stand-up audience has been lost to the P.C. police and laughter and mirth have been forever crushed by our society. For reals though, since when did stand up comedians become such huge babies? Bombing a routine is a constant threat in stand-up, regardless of how well known you are. You've been in the biz long enough, Jerry, you know how this poo poo works.

This is why Trevor Noah because a big talking point in this regard - people found old tweets of his with some lovely off-color jokes, so now there's a sense that if one routine bombs, your whole career is over. It's important to note that nobody had said a single word about Seinfeld's gay French king joke until he himself brought it up as proof of PC silencing. Nobody wrote think-pieces about it. Nobody complained about it on Twitter. Nobody even complained about it during the actual routine. He didn't get heckled by people calling him a homophobe, he just threw out a joke that bombed. That was his entire evidence. It's some craven poo poo. Because there's this ready-made narrative about silencing from the intolerant left, it's now possible for has-been or never-was comedians to deny any responsibility for their own fuckups and get taken seriously for it.

... and once again, the comic ends before we hear what the punchline would have been. How many times do these loving anti-jokes do this? They set up this premise of a jokester starting with a slightly risque opening, then cut themselves off before they can justify themselves by being an actual joke. Do you wanna know what happens when someone sets up an opening like this among real people? There's a slightly nervous "okay..." from a few listeners, then when the joke lands it's either funny or it isn't, and people either laugh or do not laugh. I've heard some racist, sexist, irreverent jokes in my time, some hilarious, some loving awful, and not once has the joke-teller been cut off before delivering the actual punchline. It's just, if that joke falls flat, they look like a lovely human being, rather than just someone who knows a bad joke. I just wish these loving cowards would stop with this "oh this joke would be SO FUNNY if only I was allowed to finish it" blueballing. Justify the joke. Let us understand why you have that setup. Stop pretending you're being brave and be that brave. Let us judge your work on its own merits rather than hiding its presupposed hilarity behind the skirts of political correctness.

This cartoon ain't railing against the PC Police. He's being heckled because his jokes aren't representative enough. His complaint is that you can no longer create anything without including the obligatory token Black dude, Asian, Jew, Female, Gay, Transwoman and Giraffeperson. The point is obscured by the inept presentation as well as the random anti-alcoholic lady in the middle, but I'm pretty sure it's that. This guy is not bombing because of his lack of comedic timing or inability to convey a point, it's just because of all those underrepresented minorities giving him a hard time over the lack of role models in the vaunted "two guys walk into a bar" medium.
