I think the Daily Show has always been on the side of gay rights, what hits me is that they are in that mindset that gay jokes are fine regardless, sort of like teenagers. Same thing with calling people retards as a hah hah funny joke.

Yesss Sam Bee. So, how/why did Sam Bee stick around after a revolving door of other female correspondents? She was a big part of the first Daily Show book, which is only a year away, but that first year had her outlast basically everyone else. And, of course, as of 2015 she surely was the longest tenured correspondent there too. edit: I posted a few pages back about pre-Bush Texas and how it was moderate and a swing state. Jim Hightower is a good symbol of that old Texas. Dude is smart, funny, and progressive. And he represented a normal amount of the Texas population. There's no room for his kind anymore. That Rob Lowe show, The Lyon's Den, lasted only about 5 episodes. Rob Lowe played a lawyer. It was probably a bit boring. After cancellation though, they were contractually obligated to produce a full 13 episodes, in case NBC wanted to sell DVDs in the future. Which gave us this amazing gem that I just discovered:quote:Lowe said, in an May 9, 2014 appearance on the NPR radio gameshow Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, that he and the show's producers purposefully made the last 13 episodes after cancellation - which they were contractually obligated to make for possible DVD distribution - as absurd as possible. The last episode ended with Lowe's character being exposed as a serial killer by Grant Rushton (Kyle Chandler), whom he then killed before jumping to his death from the firm's office tower. That's incredible.

imdb posted:In his book Love Life, Rob Lowe says that to save money on the production, the main sets were constructed in an abandoned paint factory in the San Fernando Valley (instead of in a conventional soundstage on a studio lot in a more central location). The air-conditioning system in the ex-factory was faulty and, on hot days when it failed, crew members would often faint from the residual paint fumes. Furthermore, the building was next-door to a dildo factory (the San Fernando Valley is the capital of the U.S. porn and sex-toy industries). Lowe remembered that the same day they were told that the show was canceled (but they would still have to continue filming all 13 episodes for the overseas and DVD markets), there were wildfires in the Valley. The dildo factory was evacuated but the cast and crew of "The Lyon's Den" was not allowed to do the same. This is amazing.
