170k per kid, four years, so you're talking 42.5k per year.

Sounds about right for tuition at most private schools.

E: one went to Georgetown, the other to College of Charleston.

Georgetown tuition is 50k.
CoC non-resident tuition is 30k.

So that number doesn't even include cost of living - purely based on tuition and fees you could rack up 340k in loans.

It's pretty much why Bernie is needed in this race. There are way too many liberals in America who subscribe to a progressive platform, at least ostensibly, but they don't really know why. Bernie is the kind of candidate who can explain it to them.

I could easily see Hillary losing to an actually charismatic Republican candidate. She IS too wooden, calculated and inauthentic. I guess the plus is that the Republican field is such a joke and the top guys (Bush, Rubio, Walker) are about as charismatic as Hillary on a bad day.

Yeah, this is what I'm worried about with Hillary. I'm worried about her being a John Kerry redux of sorts. The Presidency feels a lot like a popularity contest with team identities thrown in the mix, and charisma is important in popularity contests -- especially where facts don't matter.

I don't think Hillary is some vile human being and she'll probably be a decent enough president. I think she's a pragmatist and probably a better person than a lot of politicians. However, she comes off as wooden, calculated, and inauthentic (great descriptors, by the way).

I don't really follow her that closely, so I'm sure there's instances that I've missed, but the only thing in recent memory where I actually liked her, was what most pundits would probably consider a gaffe:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ow2bl5BQsFE

Skip ahead to about the 5:10 minute mark, where she's had enough, starts telling it like it is, and comes off as genuine.

Edit:

One other thing: Although the top GOP contenders aren't very charismatic, remember that Hillary is a women. Women have to put up with a lot more poo poo and walk a tighter rope, especially when vying as the most appealing authority figure.

Man, I'd kill for any mass transit. The best we've got down here in Jacksonville is some hosed up buses that are only just now being talked about having their routes updated from 30 years ago. Also the dumbest loving monorail that only travels to a handful of locations downtown and is used by like 3 people a year unless it's there's a special event where you can ride free. Then it gets upwards of a hundred people.

In Madison, WI the public transit system is actually having the problem of overwhelming demand for it and no realistic way of meeting it.

Give it time, people will come around when they realize how much driving loving sucks and how nice it is to just relax and read something during the commute to work.

Also the dude allegedly used a federal agents gun in the shooting, so in addition to being a honeypot for your racist relatives the story is also starting to sound pretty fishy.

The cost of college is definitely out of control and the system is in desperate need of change, but O'Malley's ridiculous situation is not a really good example for shining a light on that problem, it just makes me wonder about his decision-making abilities.

Back to Hillary chat: I work in IT for a government and I can think of only 2 reasons why a government employee would use a 3rd party email server to conduct official business:

1. The official email server is unreliable. I had this problem with some employees years back using private emails for work and I couldn't fault them too much. Since then we've had a major overhaul and no one has complained since.
2. The obvious reason, your discussing things you don't want recorded.

We are legally required to keep all of our emails for at least 7 years for things like freedom of information type laws, and potential lawsuits. If I found out someone was using personal email for official business I would report it to my higher ups. That being said, I don't think this will have any real effect on Hillary's chances come next November, but as an IT professional this is something that really irks me and your naïve to think that the emails she wasn't able to produce didn't have something incriminating in them.

It's because her staff and retinue (especially Sid Blumenthal) wanted to complain about Obama to her. That's the reason it was set up.

Remember that in early 2009 there was very little trust between the Obama and Clinton camps. Obama's Chief of Staff, who had been Bill Clinton's Deputy CoS for Legislative Affairs and the Clintons trusted, didn't get her personal address until September 2009.

It's hardly a ridiculous situation. How many parents have college funds of ~$250k per kid? If your kid gets into a school like Georgetown, most parents will take on the cost. When it comes to getting the most coveted internships, you can bet that the applicants from the most prestigious schools land the bulk of them (which in turn leads to better job prospects, and that basically sets them up for the rest of their life).

So you're saying that Clinton set up a private email server because she and her staff wanted to be able to bitch about their boss (the president of the united states) without him potentially seeing it? I'm not sure I believe that, but even if it's true that's a pretty hosed up reason to circumvent what should be an obvious policy.
Besides, if you want to bitch about your boss, or say anything you don't want recorded - the perfectly legal thing to do is not email that poo poo and say it in a phone call.
