I duno about Rule the waves but in S&I its a bit of a shitshow. They are way more keen to fire them off when set to AI and under the 'flotilla attack' command than just manouvering them in close to the enemy.

For Rule the Waves I take it the order number is not the registration number, correct?

You know you are in grog valley when you have to wait for some dude to personally email/mail you your key/product from his personal führer bunker in rural Alabama. (Waiting for my code ) Half expecting a beaten up package to arrive at my door in a month, containing the game on floppy disks.

Welp, there goes another one. Are they sending keys out in regular batches or just whenever? E: also it seems they have managed to fix the file extension at least.

It seems like it's just a dude mailing the keys so if you order when he's sitting down you get it in a few minutes otherwise it's whenever.

Stupid question but how do I make my destroyers actually do a torpedo attack? I was in a little 1 B - 2 DD v 1 B fight and I couldn't figure out how to actually get them to launch... The manual said get close but I drove them right on top and still nothing . loving grog game interfaces.

Haven't had a chance to play myself yet, but reading up the thread a little you don't do anything as such, just set up the conditions. Maybe you need to make sure your ships heading is right to let them use their tubes?

I noticed once I got a couple levels they really started launching them. Early on I would only ever see them do it at night.

First campaign over. Fought 2 wars against Britain, first one was basically a draw, I kept a narrow point lead, but they managed to sink 1-to-1 my B's and BB's. Built a class of 2x3 9"" CA's to kill off their old commerce raiders that were wrecking my sea lanes and they got eventually picked out by 5x2 14" BC's. Second time around I beat the RN surprisingly easily, then again I had a couple of these bad boys helping me out: Quality 1 13" guns are just as good as -1 15". Drops off a bit at extreme range, but gunnery at that range isn't really decisive anyhow. The research payouts are randomized, so I didn't ever get <9" turrets and the superfiring frontal DD turret only at the end, so my destroyers completely lacked punch beside torpedoes. Buy this game, it's great

It's really funny how you go into the game with all these beautiful pre-conceived notions as to how to build good ships with turrets on the centerline and all-or-nothing armor instead of those horrible abominations with casemates all over the place, and by the end of your first hour you're looking at main battery guns in casemats and go "well that does put 8 guns in the broadside, so it's not that bad of an idea..." You know, to complement your battleships with two towers aft and one tower forward. On the other hand, the AI seems to be wedded to the idea of ships going no faster than 20 knots, so you can fairly easily build a fleet that can dictate the range perfectly (until you roll a battleship action in a gale and heavy rain, maximum viewing distance 2,500 yards. Holy poo poo that was nerve wracking.)

Just turn AI back on when the destroyers are in close torpedo range and they'll shoot them everywhere, it's pretty hilarious.

I bought RtW and i realized something. I do not know anything about naval warfare. I, uh, played Battlefleet gothic one summer? This poo poo can't be hard, right So i made ship! Looking good, goes fast, big gun, two little guns to i don't know, gently caress with fishing boats that get too close, right? Shoots a torpedo too. Got some room for refits too when i get better guns! WHAT WE'RE GONNA LOSE THIS WAR IF YOU WON'T LISTEN TO ME George Rouncewell fucked around with this message at 08:50 on Jul 12, 2015 |
