Newspaper works fine, sure - but with firestarter bricks there's no flakes or ashes blowing around, and its easier to light, and burns longer and more evenly, so you never have to re-light, doesn't smoke, doesnt care if its windy outside, and (if you're lighting your chimney down in the grill on the charcoal grate like me) you can light it and then fill it up, instead of fishing through the holes on the side.

My go-to method is to take a small sheet of paper towel, pour some cooking oil on it, and lay it across the bottom. Burns for a while and doesn't flake anywhere.

Why would you ever be pulling the plunger up with the filter in place?

I don't know, am I doing it wrong? If I'm making multiple cups of coffee i need multiple presses. Am I meant to replace coffee grounds and filter with each press? Normally I press, retract plunger, press, retract plunger and so on until my coffee needs are met. The metal filter removed any possibility of failure among these steps, so far at least.

I'm not an expert and if it's working for you that's cool but I don't think reusing the coffee for multiple cups is what you're expected to do - but I've never even considered doing that before. It's like how you wouldn't reuse the coffee you've just used in an espresso machine.

After the first press you've extracted almost all the good flavor from it. If you keep doing it then you're just getting the bitter overcooked parts. The Aeropress is really designed to make one small cup of coffee at a time, but hey whatever works for you.

So I bought one of these (reconditioned, not new, because even my profligance has limits):

I used it to make a cheesecake yesterday. This did a great job replacing a stand mixer and mixed my filling perfectly in about 30 seconds. I plan to try making cream of asparagus soup today, and maybe later see if I can finally make mayo without the mixture splitting on me. Not much of a smoothie or green juice guy here, but what with it being Ramadan and my hating to get up at 3 in the morning to try to cram solid food in my gullet before fasting begins, some sort of veggie-fruit-protein shake might be in the cards.
