Better response probably would have been to stab the clutch and let it roll back naturally, then brake gradually. In fact, this is a perfect example of why I prefer wheeling a manual, because you can do that. I watched a friend go through a harsh triple roll because he was frantically fighting with his ratchet shifter trying to get it into neutral.

At the incline he was at, the car probably would have just bounced even harder off the suspension and ended up in the same (or worse) position.

It's diesel power challenge week again! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wdG3d4VFJA That 6.7 cummins at 7 minutes in This is at a mile elevation, too. A lot of trucks near 2000 ft/lbs this year, the drag racing should be insane.

Panty Saluter posted:Don't the turbos offset most if not all of the power loss from elevation? They can, but the tune has to account for that. the truck that made 2554 ft/lbs is from a town at 660ft elevation. These things are built to the absolute limit, this might be the first year one didn't grenade on the dyno, so to get 6/10 trucks over 1000hp, and 4/10 over 2000ft/lbs with nearly on-the-spot tunes is insane. Not to mention those massive turbos have to spin 5-10% faster to reach the same boost levels. The most amazing is possibly that 6.0 without a functional nitrous system. 990hp/1927ft/lbs just cracking a nitrous bottle open in front of the intake. Auto crossed the M3 this weekend. Didn't knock a fog light out this time, so there's that. My fastest run this weekend. Unfortunately it was my fourth run and I touched a cone a little too hard. https://youtu.be/2eCFB4K42ME This was my fastest run in the 1st 3 runs and got me 3rd in pro. Still not a good run. I was happy with the new mic set up though. Next time I might try to get intake sound. https://youtu.be/3PbqL7PSs_Y

Welp, I watched the whole thing. Now I kind of want Roadkill to try their hand at the diesel power challenge with some cobbled together junkyard mess...and after that dragstrip section they shouldn't have trouble finding donor vehicles.

Is the coal rollin' a direct result of the horsepower gain or something done intentionally? I don't know much about diesels, but I know modern ones come with all sorts of emissions things people pull off to de-cork them. Is the coal a direct result of that? I would have thought at the point your making crazy horsepower and torque you are maximizing every efficiency. Isn't the smoke a side effect of inefficiency?

With these trucks towing and moving like this, it's a matter of the turbos taking a long time to spool, and the truck expecting more boost. They're run on the rich side to be safe because runnning lean on boost means very, very large explosions. The douchebags who do it on the street at every light in an unloaded truck usually have it tuned to do it that way to be dickheads.

So it''s basically a color gauge for the powerband/torque curve, when done for power. Neat. Thanks, that makes sense.

Even the newer trucks that you would think are tuned closer to the edge to hit 800+ ft/lbs bone stock, A chip and DPF delete takes you from ~350whp/650wtq to ~500whp/1000wtq looking at chips for my 7.3, And the newer ones have a +140hp setting. 60% more horsepower in a knob. There are guys at 350whp and 350k miles with basically just injectors. stock fuel pump, stock turbo, stock HPOP I still think it's a dumb area to chase performance, but if you're still going to do it, it's there for you to find. 1/8th mile with trailer test is up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Zg-A-aLhQI Naturally only 1/8th of a mile because you don't want dudes doing 130mph with 10,000lbs behind them. 10 second 1/8 miles in 8,000lb trucks towing 10,000lb trailers That's basically stock FRS/BRZ times.
