Well we pick out batsmen based on how they are smashing them in the nets, so we may as well pick our bowlers the same way

Apparently on averages Watto/Katich were our second-best ever opening pair behind Lawry/Simpson and ahead of Langer/Hayden. Watto was actually legit good as an opener and pretty okay batting above 4.

I'd be interested to see who their opponents were in that time and on what pitch. I get that statistically they're good, but I feel Warner and Rogers is a better pair.

No one's going to argue that at the time as that co-coincided with the 18 months Watson was not being poo poo. Outside of that...... nope.

Lies, drat Lies, and Statistics.

Watson is poo poo, has alwaysmostly been poo poo, and will hopefully never be poo poo again for the Aussie test team.

Good as an opener, just about passable at no. 3, bad anywhere else.

But I think him being an opener just happened to coincide with his best form, not that he was especially suited for the position. He only scored one fifty in his last 18 innings opening the batting.

Honest question - how did/do you Aussies actually find time to watch the Ashes when they are in England since the play occurs basically during the middle of the night?

At least if you are in Perth the day's play begins at 6pm. Do you just watch a few hours before bed? I guess you can see most of the first half of the day pretty easily before bed. Was it aired tape delayed at some point?

I am in Perth so for once AWST wins, I usually watch the first two sessions before going to bed about 10.30

Guess the guys over east could do the same and turn in around midnight

it's worse to watch the Australian ashes in England. That's always midnight to 8am

It's a lot of fun here in Los Angeles - 3pm-11pm. Aus/NZ events are timed nearly perfectly.

The answer is, mate, because I want to do you slowly. There has to be a bit of sport in this for all of us. In the psychological battle stakes, we are stripped down and ready to go. I want to see those ashen-faced performances; I want more of them. I want to be encouraged. I want to see you squirm.

Play starts for the eastern seaboard (Sydney/Melbourne/Brisbane) at 8pm which isn't too bad, you can watch the first session live quite comfortably and if you're a bit of a night owl the afternoon session finishes at about 12:40am which again is pretty doable assuming you don't have to get up for work before 7am. I pretty much never watch the evening session.

Tests in the West Indies are way worse since they start at midnight and finish at 8am, I don't think I've ever even bothered staying up for one of those.

Then again I'm used to following the English Premier League football so watching sport in the middle of the night isn't that unusual for me :v:

Yeah I usually watch the first two sessions, but hang around if something interesting is happening.

It's actually ideal for me, I watch more of the Ashes in England/Wales than I do in Australia, because I'm at work. It's probably part of the reason I prefer northern Ashes.
The other international league I follow is the NFL and that's on in our morning when I'm at work, and I have to avoid results to watch it at night.

I don't like sleeping much so I just watch it all then wake up at 6am anyway
