Captain Oblivious posted:I don't really see the problem unless you have aspirations of doing literally everything. Specialize, and it's fine. The problem is it goes against what we were expecting based on what YoshiP said their goal was: YoshiP posted:FFXIV has adopted the Armoury system which is quite different from other MMORPGs in that it allows one player to be anything. However, for crafters up until patch 2.5, rather than the system allowing you to be any of them, to a large extent for more hardcore crafters it required you to be all of them. If you worked on it steadily over time, it wasn't too challenging to grow each crafting class to level 50; however, since it's an MMORPG, we thought that we should slow some things down. However, as we started adding in higher difficulty recipes, such as the ones that require special books to learn, it got to an extreme situation where you had to have full equipment and everything leveled up. So while this was rewarding economically, we recognized that it was a tough situation for players who just wanted to have some fun while making products to sell. So we want to go back to the original plan that it's something to do at your own pace; that's the policy at the heart of our updates with specialists. Except now it takes about as much time and gil to max out a single crafter as it did to max out all of them in 2.0, so anybody who couldn't omnicraft before can't even do one class now.

I'm going to pentameld some accessories to grab Accuracy for my Scholar, and I had a quick question for people better at math than me: is the Chrysolite Ring or the Griffin Ring a better bet for Scholar? HQ Chrys has two Mind over Griffin, but it's got Piety (which I frankly already have enough of) as opposed to the Spell Speed and Crit of Griffin.

I also don't think you can get anywhere near enough accuracy to justify losing the MND, with how bad rating conversions are, but Chrysolite is definitely better if you want to try.

So where can I get jewelery post-50? I still have ilvl 115 rings at level 58. Am I just going to have to pay the insanely inflated prices on the market boards?

Since I'm assuming you've done all the sidequests on another job just wait till 60 and buy law ones.

Giving us an NPC to teleport to Hinterlands is a strange solution compared to just tossing an Aetheryte in Hinterlands.

I went all the way to 60 with a i115 and a weathered sol i110 ring without issue. Don't throw your money at market board prices and just hang on. Accessories are cheap law upgrades and doing the final dungeon + trial and a HLDR and LLDR should be enough to get you at least one. If you need the ilvl to enter the final dungeon throw on any right side gear you won on greed rolls in dungeons to get your ilvl up then change it out back to the gear you actually use once the instance starts.

An update that unsurprisingly got overshadowed by 3.05 lets people check their retainers from the Lodestone. Details are at http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/special/update_log/ but in short the update lets people - Check retainer venture status - Check retainer inventory - Check retainer sale inventory/history (although updating the sale inventory - and possibly history? - requires the retainer to be summoned in-game... ) I'm not sure how useful it is, but it's there! siotle fucked around with this message at 01:53 on Jul 22, 2015 |

Just picked up the trial of this game, enjoying it for what it is so far. One question - holding down the right mouse button to turn/strafe seems a bit buggy. It works fine out exploring, but in combat, sometimes I'll be holding down the right mouse button and a turn key to strafe and I'll just spin in place. It seems like the game doesn't recognize the button press all the time when the action gets heavy. Am I clicking on something invisible? Any ideas?

The "turn" (A/D, by default) keys spin you when used with RMB, which locks your camera angle. You want to be using "strafe" (the Q/E keys, by default)
