Jarogue posted:Just got Rockman EXE WS in the mail yesterday. It plays like a Mega Man Network Transmission but less text and you just jump from stage to stage with no hub world. Its kind of fun since it plays like the first Mega Mans, jump, shoot, and slide. If anyone is interested there is a translation patch that does excited. Now I just need to get the Mega Man and Bass on the WonderSwan. No you don't. Seriously. The only things R&F have going for it are the fact that R and F get different weapons from the bosses, the bosses have cute pictures of them being destroyed when the stage is cleared, and the premise is pretty cool, with R-Shadow's complex of being built and abandoned in the future. It really isn't worth fighting Air Conditioner Man and Japanese Monk Man. That game is terrible.

Japanese Monk Man's weapon for Forte is awesome. Forte splits into 4 and is invincible. All you need to do is run into enemies for the rest of the game. Oh, and he ignores gravity, you can literally make him invincibly fly through every level, as long as you have weapon energy, and then sit inside bosses. There. Everyone can get away without playing it. Don't torture yourself. When I feel like punishing myself I play X7. Even that is better than R&F WS. Play Battle Network 2 or 3. 1 is too rough to be enjoyable and 4 is just plain bad. 5 and 6 are good, but they're not out yet, and 5 has a weird strategy game gimmick that is love/hate. Battle Network games are really hard to describe because there's absolutely no other game even remotely like them. They're pretty good though and 3 is my personal favorite. I'm not blaming you, just stating facts . BN4 is miserably bad and BN1 has very, very huge issues due to it being new (like Zero 1, but more) - I recommend you try out a better one for a bit, but if not, it's cool of course.

Japanese Monk Man is real and not some random assortment of words blurted out during a rant? And there's an EXE Wonderswan game? My MM knowledge has increased! I'd say Zero 1 is very much worth playing just like most first games in MM series. It's not the best, but the sense of progression you get as a player learning many new mechanics and flow of the game is always worth it. The grinding really does suck though. BN1 kind of bucks the trend of being worth playing because a lot of the dungeons and enemies are just a pain in the rear end, and for being a relatively short game it takes its sweet time to really "get going". I gave up on the BN series after hearing how bad 4 was, but 2 & 3 were very fun. Personally though I enjoyed the Star Force series more. Assuming Capcom bring them all to the VC eventually, which version of BN5 is "best" between Proto/Colonel/DS?

Ekusukariba posted:Battle network 3 was the best from what i remember, at least it was in my opinion Yeah, but 2 is probably an easier start. 3 does have the almighty combo of Style Change and Navicust though. Styles > Souls/Crosses pick-e posted:Assuming Capcom bring them all to the VC eventually, which version of BN5 is "best" between Proto/Colonel/DS? DS because it has both games, plus some new stuff. If they only bring the GBA ones, then Colonel is the 'enhanced' version, much like BN3 Blue.

That's cool. It's pretty much unchallenged that BN2, 3 and 6 are all really good and worth playing, it depends on personal preference which one exactly is "the best", and I don't think that can be said objectively. I prefer 2 because you can have two styles at once and the bosses in 3 suck, I would prefer 6 if it had more than no postgame (that was cut from the western release). I also really, really like BN5 and beat both versions twice over on DS (I had that one first, physically at least), but there are people who really hate it and I guess I can understand why, their reasons just don't work for me.

Yeah, I'd say 2 and 3 are the solid high point of the series. They're also before the BN4 artstyle redesign which I genuinely hated.

If we're talking ease of play/entry, BN6 blows every other game in the series away by a landslide. Unfortunately it's not out yet, so you're stuck with pretty much the original trilogy as your choices. 1 is awful and 3 has some really silly design choices, so yeah I'd go with 2. And if you like 2, then head on to 3! pick-e posted:Assuming Capcom bring them all to the VC eventually, which version of BN5 is "best" between Proto/Colonel/DS? DS is the complete version, but it had some... interesting voice acting. Team Colonel is presumably the canonical game (not that that means much), and Team Protoman is by far the easier game.

We all pretty much agree BN2, BN3 and BN6 are the good ones. Like Alabaster, I think BN2 is the best starting point since it's more straightforward, BN3 has too many gimmicky bosses for a beginner and in general seems more geared towards people who already know the games, BN6 is perfectly fine to start with but (keeping aside the fact that it still hasn't been released on VC) it has so many conveniences and looks so good that playing it first will make older games look worse than they are when you play them afterwards.

How does the virtual console handle the multiple versions for the later BN games? I never enjoyed the ones after 2 as much simply because I I also need to get the WS mega man. It's one of the only classic entries I haven't done a buster only run of.

Though I did forget another kinda cool point of the game - it's one of three that Wily isn't the final boss, the other two being Super Adventure Rockman and MMV. It also is apparently ignored by other games - Shadow Devil Mk5 would be Mk6 if including the one from this game.

Z3 is probably the cleanest installment just because you can actually build and work towards having elves without losing the ability to 100 point a mission. Some elves like the HP double elf are pretty useless because by the time you take that much damage you're already going to have a bad score, but some of them are quite useless. Also the rising Fire Slash move is pretty much the coolest goddamn thing

I like all the Zero series games, but I will say that probably my biggest problem with them is that the saber shouldn't have had a charge slash. Leveling it should instead have (quickly) given the A/S rank or form related specials in the later games. The buster is the brute force weapon and the charge shot is its thing. The saber and subweapons are for styling. chumbler fucked around with this message at 01:18 on Jul 23, 2015 |
