If anything I could say that this cab was rare but I thought 'Nah forget it, yo holmes, to Bel Air!' I pulled up to the house about 7 or 8, and I yelled to the cabbie 'Yo holmes, smell ya later', I looked at my kingdom, I was finally there, to sit on my throne as the Prince of Bel-Air.

I kind of wish we'd had something like this to humanize Nelo. Kanon went from awful to really sympathetic and likeable as the game went on, but Nelo has remained mostly a piece of poo poo even if her desires are somewhat understandable. Still, I highly suspect the only death by the end will be the completely irredeemable Zill. She seems the only 100% evil person here (plus maybe whoever is controlling Prim.)

That's one of the things Plus' purification chats with her really help with. I didn't really care much for her before reading those, but she definitely is far more likeable when she gets to talk to you normally.

Yeah the problem is that with so little hope of ever getting home Nelo latched on to the first person who had an at all plausible plan. If you don't look at it too close or think about it too hard you could even convince yourself you're doing a good thing, because hey both me and the other person who got grabbed from their world will get to go home and the remaining people here all get to live on in some form instead of dying with their rotting colony ship. Then you look at the details and realize it's pretty unlikely that Nelo or Ion get to go home, even more unlikely they BOTH get to go home, that as things stand at the start of the game even if Ion DID get home she'd be a vegetable, and that the ship is largely hosed BECAUSE of Nelo and whoops you've got the skull uniforms on. Also Prim not monologuing her plan proves a bit of an error, because not having to chase after her rear end is going to let us get some poo poo done she'd probably rather we didn't. Next time will be mandatory Diving to help Renall, then after that we'll probably do her actual Dive and see some crazy poo poo go down. We can interestingly actually do Ion's second proper Dive after completing Renall's, in spite of the fact that Nay's is a bit off. Before we see that, though, maybe we'll see about taking Nelo's advice and trying to find that other world we were supposed to have gone to originally. I like how Zill, whose charisma and intelligence was a major factor in letting the antagonists get this far, has been reduced to a complete nonentity in super robot cosplay. After Mir and Infel/Nenesha it's disappointing to have antagonists who are so... I dunno, "become God and space out devouring other sapient beings whilst rambling about THE BEAUTY" just seems far less interesting than "fulfil your lifelong dream of rescuing your people from suffering and poverty". Nelo's "I just wanna genocide home" is a bit more interesting but you'd figure at this point she'd be sick of the prices paid for her. Also AT really likes apotheosis/instrumentality as a villain goal. ATII had it twice, ATIII had the reyvaroids - yes, losing your values and ethics in a blind struggle for power/survival is bad. Yes it's a foil to the protagonists succeeding through voluntary cooperation in contrast to your forced harmony. Two in harmony surpass one in perfection. As a human Zill was competent and a threatening antagonist with a scary high level of knowledge about the ship and wave science, making herself a genome hybrid so she can sing without REON or a partner, making sharl and loving poo poo up. Now she floats about doing nothing unless provoked by a cut scene. Zill turned into an almighty idiot. She's Giygas at this point. Also do we just stop using CLASS::EXPAJA? I was under the impression we can at least give Zill some wicked heartburn.

I figure it's just an easy and cheap way to turn a charismatic villain into a final boss. They've finally used all their wits and smoothtalking to acquire power to challenge you in combat. Only it's not the final boss as far as I can tell, and she's just...hanging there in the background.

I 'think' CLASS::EXPAJA was specifically a counter for CLASS::EXSPHERE_NOSURGE rather than a way to actually separate souls that had already been eaten by the Overseer. We'll need some other option for messing with her. I'm going to be honest the 'villain' of the game isn't really any of the antagonists specifically, it's that we're trapped on a dying colony ship that hasn't moved from where it started. The antagonists are just assholes who are contributing to that problem. I also kind of think it's pretty funny that Zill succeeded in her plan of turning herself into a god and got a poo poo result that's left her drifting in and out of sentience.

The wiki at least claims that CLASS::EXPAJA creates virtual replicas of the barriers between individual souls ('qualia') and instills feelings of rebellion in the newly-partitioned consciousnesses. That's why I said "heartburn" - run properly, CLASS::EXPAJA should tear the Maternal Overseer apart from the inside and the more souls she's absorbed the more ammo he have. It recreates the mind-barriers that CLASS:EXSPHERE_NOSURGE forcibly removes. Unfortunately the effect is too weak to make Zill asplode.

I gotta say I really like the Interdimend excuse. Most jRPGs wouldn't bother giving a reason for Delta to not know anything, which leads to some annoyance on the player's side. It kind of reminds me of how Tales of the Abyss handled Luke's lack of knowledge with sorta similar results. And then it leads to scenes like this and it becomes even better. From a writing standpoint, this is handled pretty much top class.

Now we probably COULD use it to pull Nelo back out, that's much easier than anyone else because she's being kept separate so Zill can use her Oversight. But in practice doing so right now would be a bit tricky.

I'm not sure what our plans are tomorrow, I might be a bit busy for the length of update I'm planning. We'll be resolving the whole Renall situation and learning some really important poo poo so I'd rather potentially delay a day than cut the length. We'll be getting a lot of information on how things got as bad as they are, because Renall knows rather a lot about what's going on (which is why Nelo blew up her mind).

It’s story time again. I believe I promised last time we’d see how they fixed Renall’s memories, so let’s get on that.  It is kind of surreal, isn’t it…?Hm, but this is probably because Nelo destroyed Renall’s mind… I’m sure. More importantly, we need to find ways to get the memory back. It’s a little suspicious… How the tip is destroyed like that. They headed to the destroyed area, which was quite ominous really.  Yeah, I remember this place…The place called Singing Hill… That’s where I sang to destroy Ra Ciela, turning it into energy. Everyone was in a craze that day… After the world was transformed into energy… We found a planet that supported life for a little while. But, when the scouts went to the planet, Nelo interrupted the song, causing our occupation to fail… I lost my memory, and with Nelo, I came to this timeline. That’s why I have no idea what happened after that. Like how Nay is ruling over the world right now, and Renall lost her memory to Nelo… Like I have. A lot of things happened, and we didn’t learn about it until we woke up.  I think Nay’s doing her best./Everyone’s working hard. Yeah. The reason this world even exists is because of Nay, I suppose…Now then… I think we just need to restore the abandoned building, but… How can we do that? Sharl are good for repairs. Yeah, that’s a good point. There aren’t any Sharls around here, are there?The closest place that has any… They were in Nelico’s world. Okay. Then, let’s go to Nelico’s world.Feinne’s Notes: I might have mentioned that one of the events at the Sharl Nest in Nelico’s world wasn’t available when we were there normally. Now, it is. It was meant to turn the planet into energy.The plan was to use that energy to transport everyone to another planet. It would have saved everyone on Ra Ciela. Correct. However, Nelo interfered.We lost our planet, as well as the means to reach our destination. And the vessel that was meant to contain that energy was… The Microquasar. Yes. It was sent with Ion to the future…to this era.All because of Nelo. Why did she sent the Microquasar here? You cast her intent in the wrong light. She prevented us from moving to another planet. That was her goal.Indeed, it seemed as though she’d very nearly been able to prevent the story from happening at all.  I see. So she used the energy of the Microquasar to travel to the distant future instead. But why did we all wake up now? Because this is when I set the Cold Sleep Pods to release.I knew Nelo would be coming here. I planned to awake before everyone else, in order to recover the Microquasar before she could. So I will say the 'scouting party' was in fact pretty large and had Genom with them, so there's every chance they did okay.

This is super loving weird, and honestly pretty drat creepy. I thought it was kind of interesting how they made the player themselves a character in the story just because I like it when things get meta, but the fact that the character who is literally the player gets a romance plot with the female lead is kind of awful. It just comes off as incredible pandering, your love for this video game character saved her from despair or whatever and she returns your love. Yes player, your video game girlfriend loves you, as in literally the person who is pressing buttons on the controller and staring at a screen. It's so goddamn weird. I think Earthes, or just the player in general, might be least favourite character in the game.

We've still got some more weirdness to go, too. I actually have access to Ion 2 now, but I'm going to hold off until after Nay 2 because that makes more sense. We can also go do Zill's Land of Death on the Delta/Cass side, which is a very peculiar Dive indeed. We'll have plot next of course. Hopefully Wednesday, because we've got family staying with us for a few days later in the week and I might be a bit busy for my normal schedule.

The person who had Nelo's body originally is probably long dead, killed as soon as Nelo was forced into her current body. If not, then someone has been hanging around in a "fake" body for around 8000 years now. Either way, you can bet Nelo is really happy about how Ion has someone to share her misery with (Nay, who was wronged in the same procedure), whereas Nelo has been alone for thousands of years and has no one on her side. Ion even got lucky with the Earthes player, who is almost a literal White Knight (with Ion being an empress and all), whereas Nelo either got some rear end in a top hat who has "his" own agenda "he" is using her for, or is otherwise someone who shares a mentality with Tenzan from SRW. Anyway, I have to admit that I really like how the game tries to bond the player with Ion: sure, it doesn't really work for us since its basically pay off for playing Ciel Nosurge, but it's still an interesting way of making the player attached to the heroine. Or rather, it's an interesting way to get the player to think about the nature of love and its relation with reality: more "can you really love a person you never meet" than "can you love a video game character", of course, as I really hope people don't think the latter is possible.
