I find it kind of funny that the people who say we should arm recruiters and such are usually (at least around here) the same people who are freaking out about Jade Helm. I don't know how one minute you can worry about the military taking over or whatever the hell they're scared of, then the next minute complain about how members of the same military aren't armed in their offices.

I hope congress makes it mandatory for recruiters to be armed so every morning they have to drive an hour to the armory to sign out an M9 and every night when they get off to turn it in, making the work day that much more inconvenient

Highlights posted:

LANCASTER, Ohio — The armed civilians who have been guarding a military recruitment center here are gone, ordered off the property after one of them accidentally discharged his rifle on Thursday.

Reed told police that he was holding his rifle outside the recruitment center when someone asked if he could take a look at it. Reed agreed, and while he was trying to clear the ammunition from the weapon, he accidentally fired one shot into the asphalt pavement.

Reed was convicted of the same offense in 2013, and was fined $50, court records show.

“I’m nobody special,” Reed said in a telephone interview on Thursday. “I’m just a guy doing my job because my own government wouldn’t do it.”

Reed said he is not a military veteran. He described himself as an active gun enthusiast who makes a living working side jobs.

Ashbaugh, 48, of Lancaster, whose husband is a Marine veteran, said she was heartened to see the volunteers guarding the recruitment center.

“We have recruiters who can’t defend themselves. Thank God for these people willing to defend them,” she said.

Right after I made 5, I was told to lead a whole bunch of new soldiers in sweeping a tank trail. I found a loving contractor working in the same area that had one of those bobcat sweepers and asked him nicely to clean it up for us. We all just sat around smokin and jokin for the four hours they thought it would take us, and the contractor did in under 20 minutes.

That really was the problem, my joes loved me and they did what needed to be done. I wasn't always on the gun line with them cleaning paladins and cats, but I was in the platoon sgts office fighting for them, trying to get them away from the bullshit I went through. So they were fighting for me, by making sure we were a loving awesome section. We had an e-6 section chief, but he was worthless, so I ran that poo poo. Then I hit my 5 years I signed up for and got the gently caress out, telling my joes to follow me.

In case you're from some kind of pussy mos, arguing with a field artillery e-7 that has scars all over his head from ied's while you're just a slick sleeve e-5 is hard. After our deployment together we became best friends after I left the army. He was also one of the few that empathized with his soldiers, AFTER you deployed with him.

Holy gently caress I am still giving too many fucks three years later. Only two out of nine soldiers followed me in getting out. The rest are drinking that kool-aid.

So one of the three local clubs that is on-limits here by our base in Honduras is now off-limits.

Why, you ask? Surely it must be prostitution or drugs, being in Central America, right?

Nope, the club owner was assassinated in broad daylight while driving down the street, allegedly by the MS gang. Fuckin' brutal.

What's the promotion time frame for NCO's like? Curious because I've met SSGs that are as young as me or slightly younger(I'm 27) as well as quite a few that are probably 40 or close to it and SFCs that are late 20's early 30's.

Also I'm so glad I went armor after hearing about the poo poo IBOLC guys from my OCS class are dealing with. ABOLC is pretty chill and you actually learn some cool/useful stuff.

Minimum TIS for SSG is 48 months, so a guy who enlists at 17 and busts rear end for four years could be a 21 year old SSG.

I remember in A-School there was a 22 year old PO1 that everybody hated because he got promoted in the field for some poo poo he did. It was weird to be an E3 and have this guy yelling at me who was a year younger than me. I've never seen him again so I assume he failed out at some point in the school.

Every Armor/Cavalry officer I know wound up doing dismounted patrols in Afghanistan, so while I'm sure there's a lot of cool maneuver doctrine you learn in ABOLC I'm not sure how useful it could be considered in the contemporary operating environment.
