With Virgil making a bit of a splash online lately, I was reminded of his early WWF career, back when he was Ted DiBiase's bodyguard. When I was a kid I thought Virgil was the toughest man on earth because he just stood there looking menacing. When DiBiase told the Ultimate Warrior that he'd have to go through Virgil to get to him, I thought the Warrior was doomed. As an adult I recognize that DiBiase was just using a stalling tactic to get heat, but when I was a kid I thought that being put in the ring with Virgil would lead to certain death. This got me thinking that I used to have some dumb thoughts about wrestling when I was a kid. Some other examples: - Those promos guys used to do in front of green screens with their logos? Yeah, I used to think that they just painted walls in the arena with the logos - On Superstars they'd cut away to Bill Red Lyons in the control centre. There were monitors in the background playing matches. I thought those matches were happening live, and WWF had dozens of shows happening at any given moment - Some older kid convinced me that the Islanders put mustard on Matilda and ate her So, what dumb things did you used think about wrestling? I don't mean things like thinking it was real, I just mean other dumb little things you used to believe and now feel silly about.

I used to believe some of it was real because "Who would ever willingly set themselves on fire or jump off a giant ladder or bleed like that? Like of course it's all predetermined but how can you go through the motions of a 'script' with that danger?" Turns out, by being a hardass motherfucker.

Why don't they all just quit and make their own wrestling league without that jerk Mr. McMahon? I was really pleased about this insight as a kid.

That Shamrock really hurt Triple H after he won the intercontinental championship tournament after Triple H had to give up the belt due to his knee injury. Triple H was almost healed until Shamrock slammed that car door on his knee, damnit!!!

That Jobbers got paid the most in wrestling. Like it made sense to me; when you were the new hot item the fame was the reward and you basically got paid poo poo because you got to win and build your career. Heh.

I thought wins and losses mattered and no one would get over if they just traded wins and losses back and forth all the time. What an idiot I was, I'm glad WWE set me straight. I also thought Shamrock was legitimately the most dangerous man alive and figured he never got that pesky internal bleeding problem fixed because he was too insane to sit still for a doctor. HE'S IN THE ZONE!!!

Of all the possibilities for what the United States Championship was, "a championship held by someone other than the best wrestler" never once crossed my mind. Because that doesn't make any sense, if you know what the word "championship" means.
