Yeah but Sempiternal ruled. Not sure how I feel about the last couple tracks they've released though. It's pretty much just straight up radio rock, which I don't necessarily mind, but it's just not executed nearly as well as Sempiternal.

new Northlane is pretty good.

definately quite a bit different than their last album, and not just because Adrien is gone.

Actually going to the store to buy it now! I've been a little uninspired by the two single releases but hoping the album is better! Still love the last two albums and listen regularly, even if this is a little different should be still alright!

I agree, I even pushed back at a bit with the release of There is a Hell because it was 'softer' than Count Your Blessings, which is what got me fall in love with the band, but I ended up digging There is a Hell the most. I've been really disappointed with their 3 new songs, it just seems so bland, uncreative and well..... just... different :( I remember thinking There is a Hell was poppy sounding, but haha this just takes the cake.

I think "Drown" and "Throne" are amazing songs, but yeah, there's no denying that the latter sounds like something to be played during the credits of the next Transformers movie.

This is probably my favorite of the three songs they've released so far but I'm still not sure I like it as much as anything on MYOH or Rising Sun.

Apparently this Northlane album is different from their other stuff, but from what I've heard of them, if you like Northlane you might as well listen to Erra too (also you apparently like Misery Signals and that's Erra's main stylistic inspiration.)

I think most of my posts in this thread reference Erra but there's a good reason for that. They're the top band in the genre IMO and I'm stoked for their new album.

I am liking the new Northlane, like the previous Northlane you really need to listen on good speakers/headphones to hear all the sounds or its garbage.

I dig Erra. The new Northlane is okay, but I much prefer their older stuff. I could see myself liking this latest album more if I didn't associate it with their previous two.

 I dunno where you'd get that impression.

Their latest EP is a big step below Augment and Impulse in my opinion. Even Jesse admits it, I think he's said they rushed to release it to celebrate signing with Sumerian, and that their next full-length (which they're in studio for right now) will be a lot more fleshed-out.

The intro to Dreamcatcher is still gorgeous though.

I agree that it's not as strong as Augment but, as you alluded to, it has some quality parts to it. Warrior has some delicious riffs in it

Yeah "a big step below" doesn't mean that it sucks or anything, but Impulse and Augment are just really really good so it's sort of an unfair comparison.

I dunno why I assumed that. I always lumped certain bands into a category after hearing Abandon All Ships, who are probably the most god awful loving band ever. They're worse than poo poo like Attila because I don't even think Attila try to pass off as a hardcore/metal band. They seem self-aware/delusional enough that you just don't take them seriously at all.

Anyway. Miss May I, Erra, My Children My Bride, We Came As Romans, Of Mice and Men, etc etc etc. All of those bands just became "fake metalcore" bullshit to me without giving anything a real chance. But yeah, Erra is pretty sick, although I'm sure I wouldn't enjoy it live.

I gotta try dis!

All the clean vocals ruin a lot of the posted music for me. Some is okay but I guess I'm just set in my ways. Here's some stuff I've been listening to:

Darker By Design uses violin in their music which is different but otherwise they remind me a little bit of The Black Dahlia Murder. I really enjoy this album:

Saw Northlane in Boston last night. There was like 300 people maximum, it was amazing. My buddy and i hung out with Marcus a bit before they played as well, he is super cool guy, you can tell he is so humbled by all of it. They also play old Northlane songs and not just stuff off of Node.
