If it stays the course then I guarantee in 20 years Slenderman will become an urban legend with the true origin becoming a footnote in history like eating spiders when you sleep or the Japanese woman who died looking for treasure in Fargo. I can bring up Slenderman at work with 50+ year old people and they know what I'm referencing.

It's just a ghost story with slasher/evil carnival elements.

The FNAF games are all solid, if getting difficult to the point of tediousness. I feel like it's at the point where you're more likely to get frustrated than scared when you die. RE: RPG Maker/Wolf RPG/etc. horror: The Witch's House is the best I've ever played. Also good are Mad Father, Ib, Mermaid Swamp, The Crooked Man, and Ao Oni. Paranoiac might also be good, I got distracted by finals before I could beat it. Not an RPG maker esque games, but Irisu Syndrome doesn't get enough love. Love Mochi is good as well, but that game's really difficult to track down a working english version of. It's on IOS, which doesn't help me since I use android.

Corpse Party was a decent RPG-maker style game that got a real release, but it was let down by the fact that there was a lot of obtuse and aggravating bullshit involved with getting a good ending. Including punishing you for reading some things by basically locking into a bad ending halfway through a level. Story was creepy though. E. If you are looking for LPs of a lot of those kinds of games I have to recommend Mangaminx, she can be a bit obnoxious but she generally doesn't overplay it -too- much and, unlike most of youtube, does a lot of indie games, and most of all doesn't have a gooddamn facecam. Corpse Party gets a ton of praise but I've seen a 100% LP of it and enjoyed pretty much none of it. I want to like it because I like J-Horror but the only passable thing is the sound design.

I liked the atmosphere of corpse party, especially set up by the name tags with cause of death on them. I did not like the multiple chapters involving excruciating details about a child pissing themselves.

Aw man, I loved Mangaminx when I was younger. Should definitely check her out again. I played the demo for the original Corpse Party game years ago. It was a lot of fun, and I was planning on tracking down a copy to play the full thing eventually. Now... Now I"m not so sure.

I would say the first time you think to go back to an area of the world you've "purified" in OFF defintely qualifies as a horror moment. Also the subway. gently caress, just talking about it makes me want to play it again.

Is BoS the one that just rehashes literally the exact same story, then ends with a bonus chapter where they try to save their friends but OOPS BUZZ SAWS then they get saved by a side character and then everyone dies for no reason Because yeah, that wasn't super impressive

It was continuing from the ending from the first game where a time loop or setting happens, and they keep trying to escape the drat place with some vague memory of what's going to happen, but they all were destined to die, so they die in even more gruesome methods.

It just has to strike a tone from regular Earthbound like goofiness, even though that particular series can get dark very quickly just because it starts so sickeningly sweet.

Theresia is one of my favourite DS games, but it is more adventure game/interactive novel than most horror games are. There's no combat, just traps and puzzles as you piece together what happened in the aftermath of a war. Actually, while I'm thinking of it, can someone suggest more puzzle-based horror games? I love those parts of early Resident Evil/Silent Hill games but I'm not great at the combat parts of most games. (I gave up on RE4 halfway through because even 'easy' was too hard.)

I was annoyed with FNaF 4 at first because it was so hard to figure out the cues, but Night 5 was so legitimately tense I forgive the earlier parts. My hands actually started sweating. And the ending. Holy poo poo.
