Then youre really going to hate my pick buddy because... CHOO CHOO MOTHERFUCKERS! Its time for everyone to ride the WAYNE TRAIN! Wayne Simmonds Hes seasoned but still young enough, has great offensive upside, does not shy away from the physical aspect of the game, and he is amazingly fun to watch. I dont have a center yet but who loving needs one when youre scoring all the goals. e: Huberdeau-?-Simmonds Subban-Trouba ? The next round of picks is really going to determine where I head from here. Furnaceface fucked around with this message at 22:36 on Jul 30, 2015 |

As far as general strategy, the Sabres' selections don't require too much explanation. While Duncan Keith and Shea Weber are at or exiting the midpoint of their careers, they're both reasonably top-5 defensemen leaguewide and should retain their skill a bit longer than average. Kyle Turris suffers somewhat in that he's a disappointment relative to his draft status, but he's shaping into a legitimate #1 offensive center. His defensive game has its flaws, though, so Aleks Barkov will be relied upon to carry d-zone starts and check opponent's top lines. x - Turris - x x - Barkov - x x - x - x x - x - x Keith - x x - Weber x - x x

I need some guys on ELCs or bridge contracts now so why not take a RW with upside in Mark Stone Was a PPG+ player the second half of last season, fancy stats look good, and he wraps up a Nash-Toews-Stone line that can score a hell of a lot while also being really good defensively. Brodeurs Nanny posted:Did you watch him play last year? He's already one of the best defensive centers in the conference and he's loving 19. He's not but OK. He's a good player who should grow into a Ryan Kesler type. I think you're overrating him quite a bit. There are many great defensive players still on the board.

Tremendous Taste posted:Barkov's gonna be closer to Kopi than Kesler imho His scoring rate at 19 was similar at least, so OK, I'll say there's a chance of that. I don't think he was a bad pick BTW. I just think Turris was an actual steal there. Barkov went about where he should.

So I guess I never got around to talking about Logan Couture, 26, C, $6m till 2019. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WceDJV6bG0 I considered a few players ahead of Couture to play 2C behind Giroux, notably Stepan, but kept coming back to him because I think in a healthy season where the team isn't playing like poo poo and management isn't burying its head up its rear end he's a 30/40/70 player. Even this season, despite a struggling Marleau and a rotating cast of tertiary linemates, he managed to nearly hit that mark. He's also smart as hell and, despite not being super flashy or possessing rocket speed, always seems to be in the right place, making the right play, regardless of where on the ice he is. He's a bit of a Toews-lite to me, and he's got a great contract for the next four years. On top of that, because he's a guy who doesn't rely on speed or quickness but on being a smart hockey player - not unlike teammate Joe Pavelski - I think he might, not unlike Pavelski, be one of those guys who is able to improve his production/effectiveness as he approaches 30. Also while googling ugly pictures of Couture I found this, so enjoy:

He is. His anticipation in the neutral zone is unreal for a 19 year-old, he's a tenacious as hell forechecker too. I think he tops out at a 50-point player for a little while but he looks like a stud.
