Well, if you put Rall as comparison, there's not many you can say is 'artistically worse'. Maybe the guy who drew This World Just Nuts? Barry? Bad Reporter in the sense that he doesn't draw at all?

The weird thing is that Rall's earlier work wasn't good, but it had some kind of charm to it.

Modern Rall is just Simpsons fanart as drawn by a child.

No don't you understand, graphic metaphor is dead, labels are so awkward and clunky, captions filled with line after line of smug, masturbatory text is THE FUTURE™!!! Elephants and donkeys are passé anyway young people don't even know what they mean hahahahahaa!

This is what Ted Rall actually believes.

Mike Lester. Except he's an idiot who doesn't actually know what the painting was about, so he hosed it up and drew it like the cops were the girl's adversaries. He edited it later though I can''t find the "fixed" version.
Note the substitution of the word "conservative" for "friend of the family". Stay classy Mike!

Also problematic for a Ted Rall: the gun makes geometric sense at all, 2/10 indeed. The magazine should always be wider than the barrel is long, and the handles/stock/etc should extend in ways such that no actual human could ever hope to use the weapon.

Also, the eyes on the Rall-character seem to point in the same direction, and neither their positions on the head nor their distance from one another randomly changes from panel to panel. Honestly are you even TRYING, Mr. Beeg!?

The Problem We All Live With is just and image though. There's a little text in the graffiti and the marshal's badges, but over all it's a strong example of 'show don't tell' from a master illustrator and artist. Bell's visual is an image of text, from the use of the text-heavy Google translate page to the actual text being translated. It is clear and simple and I think it's a bit clever in how it's using a translation program to impart distorted perception, but the literal visuals of it aren't very strong which makes it kind of weak as a cartoon.

Women should not be prevented from marrying just because they have two heads. I applaud your pro-mutant stance.

This one's pretty hilarious from the perspective of the UK right wing making GBS threads themselves over a politician saying "Hey, maybe we shouldn't gently caress the poor since they're 95% of the people doing the voting" and actually gaining some traction. There's been a story lately about seagulls attacking people, but the one that has the most visibility is this masterpiece from red-top rag the Star, describing how flocks of feral seagulls are attacking illegal immigrants and calling them "the last line of defence". Since Jeremy Corbyn has just accused PM David Cameron of using xenophobic rhetoric against those exact same immigrants, the cartoon becomes a reverse-of-reality "Thynges Hath Happened".

Incidentally, completely useless knowledge - more than completely, really - but if there are any fellow Doctor Who goons in this thread they might be mildly interested to know that the Times cartoonist is the same Peter Brookes who drew several Target books in the mid-seventies.

It's budget time! Well, strictly speaking budget time is March, but a new Government will usually release a budget within a couple of months of taking power. Back in 2010, George Osborne declared his first budget to be an "emergency" one, addressing the dire state of the nation's finances.

Osborne's first budget from a Conservative majority government was expected yo deliver even more austerity... which was the case, but with some more progressive policies mixed in, including an increase in both the minimum wage and the lower earnings limit for income tax. In If-land this means we get George dressed in the skin of former Labour chancellor and PM Gordon Brown, mangling his quote "prudence with a purpose" and using everyone's favourite truth-is-in-the-middle doctrine, triangulation.

It the same reason that he believes that he would be winning awards if only unfairly privileged cartoonists didn't keep winning year after year.

I know this is late, but still, it is worth remembering that every year, like loving clockwork, Rall puts forward a sour-grapes editorial essay about how the Pulitzers are corrupt, lovely, and don't mean anything anyway. And despite this he will introduce himself as a Pulitzer Finalist.

Fair point, but on second viewing I like how it's framed: more and more people have tablets and get their news that way, and the Internet has that gosh darn ability to give people access to information that disproves talking points. But, as per your critique, how to make it better? Show an image search that has GOP propaganda showing Straw Feminists strangling children outside a Planned Abortionhood? Two tabs with video playing, one a hatchet piece from the fake news and the other a piece by PBS or NPR about how many lives are saved because abortion is legal? It's possible with a minimum of labeling, quite a bit of work for something that the viewer will glance over, fart, and forget about.
