Does anyone know why the ATI Driver on my laptop will resize the windows and reset the color whenever I close the lid? It wasn't doing this on Window 8, but it now doing this on Window 10. I know it ATI related since when the driver was removed it wasn't resizing the windows. Sadly there is only a single 17.1 driver for ATI right now with the beta being behind the current release! [edit] Tried D4 just to make sure my card still working, which it thankfully is. But I noticed the color got reset after leaving that too. So how can I stop it from changing my color setting in ATI Catalyst? Rirse fucked around with this message at 04:06 on Aug 8, 2015 |

Anyway, try hooking your laptop to an external display, make sure it recognizes it, then closing the lid. With my nvidia laptop, doing this made it stop changing resolution when the lid was closed and a monitor wasn't connected.

Part of the problem is the stupid choices the installer makes if you leave it to its own devices - changing default apps is just not cool and it makes people very suspicious of what else is going on. e. Also the 'Something happened' error - it would have been far more helpful to actually say what happened. No idea how you were supposed to figure out it was (or was for me) a locale issue. dissss fucked around with this message at 04:41 on Aug 8, 2015 |

Hey guys, went back through the last 15 pages, but didn't see this. I got the rollout notification yesterday, figured "what the hell", backed up my 7 environment, and did an in-place upgrade so I wouldn't have to reinstall all my poo poo. Everything is working pretty well, still getting used to some of it... but my big issue is this: all of my Start Menu icons are blanks/generics. Any way to rebuild my start menu icons? The new apps show up fine, but everything else is affected. JohnnyCanuck fucked around with this message at 21:24 on Aug 8, 2015 |

dissss posted:Because you're comparing the size of an in place Windows installation to the size of the Windows installer. The number in the screenshot is also inflated due to the WinSxS folder. A lot of files in WinSxS need to be in multiple places, both within the folder and elsewhere in Windows. It waste space to copy the files everywhere they're needed, so the files' data is kept in one place, and every file just points to that one copy of data. File Explorer isn't very smart, though, and will add the size of the data to the total every time it sees a file pointing to that data.

Is it just me or can you not go entirely full screen in tablet mode? For example in the Netflix app the task bar is always showing even when a video is playing, but if you toggle tablet mode off you can click the full(er) screen button and it goes away. Also I miss being able to swipe and see the time when in full screen video, the action centre should show the time. Switching between the modes also sucks because you end up with dozens of open apps floating around, at least minimize the background ones. Closing apps from the view all mode should be easier, that x is tiny. Should be able to swipe to get to all apps. But the Touch screen office apps and Awful app are great! How long have you guys had to wait from signing up for the upgrade to actually being able to install it?
|

That's largely dependant on your specific hardware setup. You can just download and install if you want the slight risk of an incompatibility problem.

I tried to upgrade to win10 from win7 on my desktop pc and now its stuck on the 'Hello, welcome back!' screen and both my mouse and keyboard are not doing anything. I googled a bit and I tried different usb sockets, a different mouse, plugging them all out and restarting and plugging back in when windows has started but nothing works and it feels like I bricked my pc which kinda sucks. Anyone else had this problem/knows how to fix this? I haven't been able to play rocket league for 3 days

Since I completely skipped the entirety of Windows 8, I missed out on this live tile business, which now is kinda neat on Windows 10 thanks to not being full screen. What are the best ways to make my start menu only have live tiles even tho I want shortcuts to actual apps?

Is there a way to make 1440p not suck on Windows 10? Skype, chrome, and various other software look like complete rear end at higher than 100% scaling. Custom scaling doesn't work well either. Default just makes everything tiny, but it strains my eyes.

I fresh installed Windows 8.1 on my laptop and upgraded to Windows 10 without a single hitch. Pretty impressed, actually. The Windows 10 beta/preview was a bit bumpier than this for this machine so it looks like they've made quite a bit of progress in the past couple of months.

Hey, I'm just doing a fresh install of 8.1 to my laptop myself, and am about to go through the same process. Did you just hit "Get Windows 10" and it started updating, or did you do one of the manual "No seriously, update this poo poo now" methods? I would like to also not have a single hitch going to Win 10 if I can.

In case anyone cares, you can upgrade a system using the Home/Pro Win 10 ISO. As long as the install doesn't prompt you for a key code, you are good to go. No need to wait for the upgrade icon to be ready.
