My friend used to train with Nathan "Carnage" Corbett up in Queensland. He was really excited to watch his recent(ish) fight with Spong. He did not stay that way. That left hook he finished him with was loving blinding. It's amazing to see the difference in average handspeed between kickboxng and MMA.

it's hard to disagree with the notion of trying to get a big payday when you were signed to a big money contract by the organisation that still wants you to fight for them, and you still want to fight for them too, however unless you're blind and stupid as poo poo you know which way the wind is blowing in kickboxing, and that's "imminent death if we ever pay you and everyone else 250k a fight again"

Yeah. He's right that he's one of the few draws left in the sport, but I doubt that means anything on this side of the Atlantic. This probably gets said every 10 pages, but it's a shame that kickboxing is fractured to poo poo and run by fuckups. I think a lot of casual MMA fans would easily be casual kickboxing fans if there was an established North American organization with media presence. The sport is the drat definition of stand and bang. Actually getting off the ground with something like that is near loving impossible though.

I wonder what the terms were that GLORY was offering. The one thing I don't see a lot of kickboxers involved in are media promotions or sponsorship type things. Stuff you see MMA/Boxers do that keeps their name out there without actually fighting. Also its pretty dumb of GLORY not to get ahead of this. Gokhan out there making GBS threads all over your product is not a good look.

Maybe someone here can help me remember something: A few years ago when I followed punchmans more closely, I watched a fight that had been hyped in the threads here. The fighters weren't extremely well known, one was Japanese and had maybe dyed blonde and/or spiked up hair, the other was darker skinned, maybe Thai or South American, I don't remember. I know it went to decision after constant back and forth, and the Japanese guy was pretty handsome and they may have cut to his worried girlfriend a few times. It was probably fought at like, middleweight-ish. I'd say probably 165 or 170. The Japanese guy wore blue shorts, I think, and one of those Thai style armbands. The darker guy wore black shorts. It was brought up here semi-frequently as an example of a really good kickboxing fight. I know that's not a ton to go on but I might as well take a shot.

A rare spot of potentially good news, the Japanese K-1 run by the Krush people will be announcing a TV deal on monday. The word they used was "terrestrial" so it might not be some lovely, unimportant satellite deal (but it probably is). They're the only people putting on consistently good shows with any kind of structure that makes sense so it's cool they're not just online streaming anymore.
