Dr.Caligari posted:What kind of mpg that beauty getting? 8mpg when rolling downhill with the engine off? Yeah, it's not pretty. 10mpg is generous. It doesn't help that the factory 3-speed doesn't have an overdrive. Once I have a place for that beast, it will be restored and it will get a 4 speed... Oh yes.

Tremek posted:This is my dad's '77 Sierra Classic 3/4 ton 454. It's slow. I think it's closer to 5k than it is 4k, IOC. I weighed it at the dump a few years ago and it was about 4900 lbs, I'll see if I can find the pic. Can't imagine the I6 would be that much lighter. Well, yeah, it's a 3/4 ton and not a 1/2 ton I'm sure there's some extra fluff that the '73-'87 adds over the '67-'72, but I've had my C10 come in at under 4000lb with my fat rear end in it. Of course, the LS1 takes about 100lb out of it, but that's the only weight reduction that truck has. From what I can see, the 292 and the regular iron SBC are about equal in weight, and the iron BBC adds another 150lb or so.

DJCommie had a 323 wagon at least, not sure if he had 323s previous to that. Pre-90 323 GTXs were B6T engines and the transmissions were a major weakness. Japan/Aus got the 90+ GTX and GTR, which has turboed BP engines between 180-210hp, I believe. Sock, if I remember correctly, installed a BP engine from a similar gen protege LX or escort GT (or miata). Great upgrade, it's about 40hp bump over the stock 1.6l lump.

So the entire concept is bad, but the rear end is so very very sad. I hope that no original TBird body was ruined for this to happen, that the owner just bought a prefab kit made post 1996.

I love when the ads list the fantasy-level potential of the car they are selling. "All it needs is x, y and z and it could make 600HP" (not mentioned, every other letter of the alphabet, all of which it needs)

I liked the truck, the engine ran really well, but it needed new tires, was out of reg, and there were obvious bondo repairs in the usual places. I tried to get him to go lower but he wouldn't go below $3000. Oh well.

Like others have said, there's a million and a half places to get parts for these things. I would just broaden your search to include V8 models and autos. The Turbo 350 that backs those engines is more than adequate, though the Turbo 400 is best.
