I love that SYD got a real budget for their second season and gave us a sweet, and pretty out of place, action scene

Yeah, I initially just ignored it cause it looked like they were just going to redo the first movie but this changes the entire thing. Vegeta making takoyaki.

Random mook power-slide-limboing under the closing shutter was a high-point.

Super waits until the dub. But it is a painful wait.

It's good, as well. Extremely good sleepy town vibes.

Besides the fun mysteries, the thing that impressed me most about Hyouka was the amazing static background artwork and lighting. Absolutely gorgeous. This café scene in episode 2 made my jaw drop, and I had to rewind it because I wasn't paying attention to the characters at all. I also loved the liberal use of Bach's Suite No.1 for Unaccompanied Cello throughout the show. It fit the mood very well.

I guess I should watch Hyouka sooner rather than later. I've run out of K-On!, Ore Monagatari is nearly over, and we're never getting Shirobako s02 or the Nationals arc for Hibike! Euphonium, so my cute quotient is dangerously low.

The sooner we learn to accept that this world is a fundamentally flawed place where nothing just ever happens, the sooner we can learn to enjoy our brief lives on this earth.

KyoAni spends a lot of time scouting real world locations and meticulously documenting them in a variety of angles and lighting conditions, so their spaces have a much more grounded, cozy feel than most productions.
