Given that the truck probably has a sign on the back warning against exactly that I would hope the blame will be squarely placed on driver of the PT.

A guy I know drives a waste management truck for a living. He was parked on the side of the road with his hazards on, doing a curb pickup, when a Sheriff's deputy in his cruiser rear ends it. No injuries, no major damage, but he got ticketed for it. Somehow. And had to actually fight it in court. Failed to see this, hit it, and ticketed the driver of it.

someone made a whoopsie driving through West Marin the fact that I can take that same corner, heading east (as they appear to have been) at a decent clip in my Volvos makes me wonder how exactly they managed to end up rear end-end first on the opposite bank

Terrible car stuff: car journalists determined to refer to SUVs as "utes" when that term already means something else in the context of cars. Reading an article the guy mentions mini utes coming to the US which got me excited until I realized he was just writing about compact crossovers. What a let down.

PCOS Bill posted:Failed to see this, hit it, and ticketed the driver of it. Well what do you expect him to do, admit he was wrong? He's lucky the deputy just gave him a ticket. I had two cops pull out of a parking lot in front of me (I was able to stop in time), proceed to pull me over about three blocks later, scream at me for 15 minutes and then threaten to kill me if they ever saw me again. I lodged a complaint, department sat on it until the dash cam footage was rolled over and closed the investigation due to "lack of evidence." If I ever get hit by a police car I'm tossing the keys out the window and then laying face down on the pavement with my arms and legs spread out so they can't claim I was fleeing or reaching for a weapon.

I actually live not far from what used to be the Cadbury US headquarters (it's on the same major road that I live off of). Though it looks like they spun off years and years ago (2008) - it's now Dr. Pepper's HQ. I'm not on that stretch of road often. If I need to, I can always edit out the audio. ... though Texas is a one party consent state anyway. It still potentially comes in handy, even if I get pulled over and the cop asks me to turn off my car - being a GM, the car has retained power, so the cam keeps going for up to 10 minutes (or until I open a door). (and gently caress if you if you think I'm turning off my car when it's 105 out and my a/c is the only thing keeping me from dying a slow death)

Recording consent only applies to conversations that are assumed to be private, such as a phone call or a conversation inside your house. People aren't protected from being recorded on a public street. If an officer has ever told you that, they were lying to you to get you to delete the footage. There's no expectation of privacy or confidentiality for an event occurring in broad daylight on a public road.

I didn't say you'd necessarily get convicted, but if you haven't been paying attention despite multiple court rulings that it's completely legal to record the police as long as by doing so you don't physically interfere with their ability to do their job police are still confiscating cameras and arresting people who try to record them. I guess the point is if you have a dashcam rolling during an officer-caused accident hope they don't see it and whatever you do don't tell them "my dash cam caught the whole thing."

Good, let them arrest me. The ACLU and co have plenty of lawyers for exactly that kind of case, and right now with four circuits concurring and one dissenting on the issue, it's primed to be a Supreme Court case along the lines of Miranda soon enough.
