The cure is probably going to be worse than the disease :( They were similarlyish bemused by the things people did to speedrun dungeons, and their newer dungeons while being thematically awesome and having some great boss fights, lose something a bit in how rigid they are to avoid letting people do gigantic pulls and powering through them.

Similarly, any kind of rebalance that forces me to use VIT accesories so I just have kinda lovely dps and now there's bigger numbers everywhere or something just sounds less fun for questionable benefit.

Welp, gave an A1S PF group a shot tonight and that's probably the fastest I've ever changed my mind from "I think I'm pretty okay at this game, I could probably clear A1S" to "Haha nope I'm entirely fine with being a casual." We got past Faust, but oh man there's so much poo poo going on during Oppressor. Maybe if I wasn't on a PS3 it'd be a bit better but as is I don't plan to take another swing at that, ever.

Excluding CUL, WVR GSM LTW as the three first isn't surprising at all as they were the big money makers in ARR and the classes that could make gear for other crafters. GSM got brutally shafted so I wonder how many of those GSM specialists aren't wishing they had picked BSM or CRP.

I went ALC, CUL and CRP, not exactly super pleased with my choices so far but who knows, maybe some nice stuff will come our way. Though, at the moment it doesn't really matter since I rarely ever use specialist actions anyway.

While we may not be able to pull everything all at once it's still generally only 2-3 trash pulls between bosses if you actually get tanks who are willing to pull multiple packs at once.

As a summoner I cringe a little whenever a tank does the first pull and stops with only one pack.

I've had multiple tanks in neverreap that split that first area into 3 pulls (first set of birds, the moth, 2nd set of birds) and mark every single mob on the map then get lovely at me cause I'm going after the things that have aoes instead of the floating jellyfish or whatever that they marked as 1

god forbid that they encounter a class with more aoe damage abilities instead of two melee dps

I feel like on my warrior I could do stupidly big pulls and be fine but I feel like my DRK takes a lot of damage so I'm not sure i could pull nearly as well. Then again I do have abyssal drain now, so maybe that heals like crazy on big pulls. I'd assume it would.

I've heard you take feint because it remains instant-cast in Wanderer's Minuet, so you can use it when you only have to move for one GCD.

Out of curiosity, what made you pick up those choices, exactly? From a pre-HW point of view they are basically the worst choices possible. Were they your primary money makers or the only DoH classes you had leveled?

Cainer

Pretty much everyone I knew was going WVR, LTW, GSM/BSM. So I figured I would try something different so I could be a special snowflake. Also ya, CUL and ALC made me most of my money pre HW, CRP was just a throw away since it was the only one no one else had in my circle of crafter buds.

I see. The way I took it was that unless they had Specialist-only recipes the Specialist actions would be useless because you're selling on volume and I can't imagine a food piece costing several million gil. So ALC and CUL seemed the worst choice by far, and CRP had a lot of its "budget" allocated to Housing which made it a bad choice too. So what you did was a pretty big gamble.

On the other hand if it had paid off with, say, a food that's absolutely required to meet 2 star requirements and the best raiding foods locked behind CUL specialist, you would have made crazy amounts of fake money.

I really enjoy this game in general and i find a lot of its mechanics interesting (hunting log, the fighting mount, the red thread through the whole game that is the main quest, the teleport system, etc etc) which is why i keep trying different classes but i just can't seem to get comfortable with any of them. None of the classes i have tried so far are particularly fun (white mage at 35, arcanist at 20, archer at 20, marauder at 15, gladiator at 15)
I enjoy playing support classes, be it healer or tanks and bore easily with DPS classes, which is why i have been focusing on white mage. I don't think i can bear the white mage any longer though. In groups all i do is cure cure cure, with the occational group heal. People rarely need healing so most of the healing is overhealing EXCEPT SUDDENLY OUT OF THE BLUE SOMEONE GETS INSTANTLY KILLED so its like i always have to be on the alert for that occational chance that someone gets blown up with little to do in between. Its like wack-a-mole without any moles appearing except all 9 of them showing their face at once, occationally.
Someome suggested i use the healing downtime to DPS but i would have chosen a DPS class if i wanted to do that. If healers are supposed to dps in this game then i am not sure that healing is for me.

As for tanks the limited gameplay i have tried so far seems a tad more interesting but the overall pace of the game is slow. A global cooldown (to borrow the term from WoW) is 2.5 seconds in FFXIV which feels artificially slow to me. It also stresses me out that i do not have any self heals, being used to playing healers or hybrids for 15 years of MMO's. The tanks seem kinda same'y as well. I think the first 4 skills i got as a marauder and a as a gladiator were literally identical. Looking through their skill tree there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of interesting skills.

I really want to find a class i can enjoy to the endgame as this game has a lot of potential and i am very fascinated by many of its mechanics but i am not sure how many more classes i will bother trying before calling quits

Get arcanist a little higher and take scholar. It's really fun and has decent dps tools, solid and sometimes interesting healing, and the fairy. Bonus: you basically have a dps-heal-tank party in the overworld with your pet bird.

I've helped out a bunch of dudes with pre-HW MSQ stuff in undersized, and it does indeed rule. A tank and a Scholar is basically all that you need, with everything else just being gravy.

If they don't want to DPS, Scholar is not their class. Half the power of the class is the fact that it has bar-none the safest and most effective DPS out of the three healers in the game.

How do GSMs get shafted? I've been super casual about leveling up my crafters so I've only now got a few hitting 55, though my plan had been to go ALC/CUL/GSM.

GSM went from being one of the best to very mediocre by virtue of no longer having crafting/gathering right side and DoM/DoW items being incredibly underwhelming. A lot of the right side is done by CRP/LTW. GSM has I think 9 two star recipes (besides the ingot) and only the DoH/DoL earrings. CRP has 6 recipes I believe, but they include three items from the right side. It's hard to say which one is better because to be honest neither of these items will sell, but CRP is better if you're intending to craft yourself right side jewelry which cannot be bought with scrips, so if they ever release 3 stars and 3 stars turns out to be brutally hard these might be useful.

To fully appreciate how bad that is, LTW has 45 2* recipes and WVR has 28. CUL doesn't have any. ALC has a few reagents for DoW/DoM two stars, so basically things with not a lot of market value.

Don't go ALC/CUL/GSM or, if you really want, wait until they announce the next patch since they're planning on doing stuff to Specialization.

I like how the end of the warrior questline basically sets them up lore wise to get rid of the maurader's guild altogether.

EDIT: Since they're going to put in an abridged story for people to catch up through 2.x in 4.0, I figure they could easily get rid of classes then as well by doing something similar in the 3.x series with all the jobs. Even if they don't do it explicitly in the other job quests like they do for warrior (I honestly don't know if they do), a sidequest here or there would fill the same purpose.

I really only play Bard, and I use Invigorate, Internal Release, Blood for Blood, Second Wind, and Triangulate.

Some people say Feint is neat, but I personally don't even see the point. Mantra is a help, but whether or not you treat that tiny-rear end buff as tangible help is up to you. Really, those first four are all you need. Just pick something for your fifth one. Try out some skills, and if they don't rock your socks off, try another one.

If you buy something on steam gaben gets a cut of all revenue from that. Including subscriptions. SE's options are:
1. No steam, no money for gaben, potentially lose out on customers.
2. Steamworks, gaben gets a cut of every subscription
3. Steam is an option, some people who wouldn't subscribe otherwise find the game and gaben gets a cut of that money they wouldn't have otherwise.

That's such a broad question as to be unanswerable but you can make a few direct comparisons I guess:

Much prettier.
Much faster and more regular content updates.
A much 'healthier' world that isn't a ghost town (compared to WoW's current focus on garrisons).
A much larger range of activities to do both leveling and at endgame.
Systems in place to keep low-level activities and dungeons well-traveled by high-end players so that nothing is ever really that empty.
A housing system so much better it isn't really comparable, at the expense of houses being much more expensive to buy.
In my opinion a much better and more engrossing plot, albeit one you HAVE to finish to get access to everything in the game.
A much more communicative dev team that so far has paid a lot of attention to what players are complaining about.

Hope this helps!

I'm more pointing at the fact that SE has absolutely no obligation to lock you into steam for all future expansions, as they're the ones generating the keys, valve is just a reseller. But they're doing it anyway.

It's lovely, but I went through steam anyway because it's the cheapest option where I live.
