HPGs don't broadcast, they shoot data like a gun that blows up at the destination. They were originally designed as a replacement for the K-F drive.

Orders are in. Backing up to 1116. There's a chance the Orange Citrus Shadowhawk will come up and try and shoot me in the back but if he does he's not killing the Grim Reaper and that helps with the whole 'fulfill the objectives' thing so I'll call it a plus. Unloading on the Jinggau, since at least I know where that fucker's gonna be.

So, can we expect the dropship to start advancing on the players now that it's out of people to war-crime it up on? That thing's got to be packing some heat as well.

PoptartsNinja posted:The current version does, but it's still a new feature that's not fully implemented (the middle leg has no slots you can put things in and always has 0 armor / 0 structure). MegaMekLab lets you design tripods and superheavies. It's a shame that SSW seems to have been abandoned, I much prefer the interface. Also please give the Word of Blake wacky tripod mechs.

Leperflesh posted:You know what else is silly? The idea that you can send a message to anywhere in the galaxy at any time, using a dish mounted to the surface of the planet. Relays. The First Circuit isn't called that for nothing. An HPG only has a range of about 50 light years. Even a top priority message might take a day or more to get from Terra to BFE, Deep Periphery depending on network congestion. dis astranagant fucked around with this message at 12:19 on Aug 22, 2015 |

Leperflesh posted:Also a parabolic dish is good for receiving a weak signal, but completely unnecessary for sending one. The HPG should be broadcasting from some kind of directional antenna. HPGs send and receive, and usually do so on set schedules to a set list of nearby stations. If I had my way the ground facility would largely be a dummy one and they'd be broadcasting to an orbital facility instead, but other than Wolfs Dragoons' mobile factories BattleTech doesn't have too many orbitals. Instead, think of an HPG as something omnidirectional (via the magic of handwavium). It doesn't matter which way it's pointed since whatever it's putting out isn't obeying the laws of physics anyway.

Behind Enemy Lines: Tactical Update 16 Battered and broken, the ComGuard Grim Reaper pulsed one of its running lights in Bad’s direction. He came up short, half-way through stepping over the fallen form of the other. One blink, a long pause, then three. A short pause, then six. Moving almost automatically Bad toggled a secondary channel over to 1003.6. “—ope you’re listening,” a voice crackled. “I’m probably not making it off the field, but Acolyte Kreszentia wasn’t in her `Mech when the Capellans attacked. They’re going to blame you for this, and dead man walking or not I’m too angry to let that happen. She should be around here, try to recover her. If that’s not enough to convince you, then I hope this might: if the Capellans don’t want ComStar to know about these `Mechs then they’re going to kill everyone. Not just ComStar, but League citizens as well. Find Alice, tell ComStar, and there’s sure to be an interdiction. And then maybe the League can start making the Confederation pay for—” There was a sharp crack as the Grim Reaper’s transmission died, its head cracking open like an egg as the auto-ejection mechanism kicked in. A moment later the machine’s right breast ruptured as a fireball split it cleanly down the middle. The Grim Reaper’s C.A.S.E. might’ve been enough to protect the pilot but the force of the explosion drove it into the ground. Bad scanned for parachutes for a fraction of a second before twisting to sweep the ground. The Guardsman had spent his machine—and possibly his life—to try to save his fellow pilot. Bad wasn’t cold enough to ignore a sacrifice like that. Movement Phase War Dog (Player) - Generating Ghost Targets on Jinggau (4 base + 2 ECM Tuning = 6): rolled 7, succeeds! MOS: 1!
