Non-lovely coded mobile apps ports talk: Does anyone have any strong negative opinions on the game Evolution? My wife (an animal-bones focused archaeologist) seems to like the idea of it as a game, but she also liked the idea of Adventure Time Munchkin before we played it once and then wanted to burn it as we had never played Munchkin before to know how terrible it is no matter what flavor it is cloaked in.

I wouldn't say bonkers easy; if you try to write your own shuffle algorithm without reading up on some theory you'll probably create a biased shuffle, but you certainly shouldn't end up with something predictable.

Also before we play Cuba Libre, can anyone give me a rundown of the macro level strategy for each faction? Just so we aren't all going into the game not really knowing what to do.

DR: Worm your way everywhere, make yourself a small threat, Terror to Passive Support so you can get in and M26 can't, use Subvert (or whatever your econ action is called) liberally to keep your resources up and hurt gov/M26 victory. M26: Fight dirty, Terror everywhere, Kidnap like mad to make money and gently caress the Syndicate/Government depending on who's first, Infiltrate any attempts by the govt to move into the countryside, don't get involved in fights you can't win. Govt: Read the advice in the playbook for how to conduct counterinsurgency, watch your money, don't overextend yourself, play rebels off each other, make money off the Syndicate, . Syndicate->DR->M26->Govt is generally increasing order of difficulty to play. Govt player should really read the playbook because they're not super intuitive.

uhhh miniature market's site is hosed right now and everything is reading $15. The group listings are correct but if you drill into any game it shows as $15. I bought a copy of Chinatown thinking they were having some kind of clearance sale and and went to check 1830 just for shits and giggles and yeah they're in for some poo poo tomorrow (my Chinatown ordered processed). Miniature Market has been a pretty good retailer, and I imagine most hobby store margins are razor thin that they don't need to deal with a bunch of people trying to take advantage of what is obviously a glitch. Don't be one of those people.

I had no idea what was up, I've just been price watching for a Forbidden Stars deal and placed my order before hearing about the rest. If it's cancelled, I won't be offended, the price seemed too good to be true but they're a reputable dealer so I ordered just in case it was real. Now I know it was a bug, and I think it is lovely to order a ton of games that are obviously priced wrong.

I actually emailed their CS and pmed their handle on BGG once I realized the Chinatown order was hosed, not that it's going to help any -- the glitch is already on BGG they're going to get murdered. That Codenames Let's Play and its dwindling stock on MM actually prompted the order (Codenames is at the right price it looks like so I wonder if they'll cancel it too). e: oh my god their Magic landing page, god help their CS tomorrow. Mojo Jojo posted:What game? The forbidden stars one is great. Everybody should adopt the "earn to play + alphabetic reference approach No, it's horrible. The tutorial booklets leave out some rules that can be important in the full game and make no effort to indicate there's something missing. So you have to read through the whole alphabet-ordered list, filled with crap you do not need at the moment, organized in a way that eschews any logical links just in case there's something that was omitted/special ruled for the tutorial.

Yeah I'm gonna have to agree with Mojo on this one. L2P has a solid foundation -- then just pop over to the reference to clarify. Even total grognards are going to blow a few rules the first time. \/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ Fair -- but if it's a game that complicated, generally someone is reading all the literature/teaching. Unless it's ASL I guess. The Mantis fucked around with this message at 11:24 on Aug 25, 2015 |

Tried Five Tribes for the first time. It was fun, and just playing the game is really enjoyable. Moving the colored meeples around the map. Lovely. I did not bother with overanalyzing the possible moves, and just winged a strategy. Which put me in 3rd place, but was still fun. Are the blue meeples the ones most contigent on the map layout in regards to their usefulness? We had all th e blue tiles spread around the edges.

For the better part of a year, three of my friends from my gaming group have been doing a podcast on board games titled: The Good, the Board, and the Ugly. I haven't hyped or talked about here because I did not want to be a shill. But wih today's episode I think it's time to give them a little love. The podcast has three gentlemen on by the names of Joe, Jon, and Trent. Joe is eurogame snob who would fit perfectly within this thread, Trent is the straight man who tends to lean to euros but still can be objective about lighter fare, and last is Jon - who is all about the most reviled of words--fun. It's those differing viewpoints that I think really gives the show its charm. They follow a simple little format of reviewing games they've played over the week, then talking about a topic relevant to the hobby, and finish up with hyping a game they really want to play. This is all done in an hour or so, unless I'm on it and somehow provoke a two hour marathon. The other day was their 33rd episode, and I think it was their best yet. They reviewed some killer games in La Granja, Caylus, and Kemet; and had a heated discussion about Kickstarter. I can't recomend these guys enough, and I hope you guys give them a listen! Rumda posted:Are you sure you have to wait a friend of mine has had the second edition for months. Yeah, second edition evolution went out to stores before most kickstarter backers got it, because the backers got it together with the new flight expansion (which I don't think is in stores yet). Honestly, if MM does more than an apology letter and refund (or maybe a blanket small discount), I'll be slightly miffed. I'm sure that refunding a load of PayPal orders is going to cost them money, so BGG chuckleheads getting rewarded while over those who refrained would be annoying. I totally appreciate their business, don't take advantage!
