Going to disagree since I can play P4 with headphones on without suffering whereas I cannot really say the same when P4G Chie is involved and especially when she's allowed to level up. Not entirely the VAs fault since some of or maybe even most of what makes me hate the performance was bad leveling. Not to say the old voice was actually good or anything, but it being a less grating scratchy voiced dork, more consistently that and leveled correctly definitely makes it better than what we got in P4G from Fitzgerald.

I didn't really mind Chie as a character when I first played P4, but definitely did not like her in P4G. I don't think I've ever heard anybody say the reverse and obviously the people who found her annoying in P4 still found her annoying in P4G.

Honestly, Persona is not even that good. In waifus and husbandos, Fire Emblem have them beat and the storyline and keeps getting changed for new characters and people that are supposed to die keeps reviving, muddling the theme of the games. I better be able to touch my personas in P5.

Old Chie's quality was inconsistent and sometimes outright awful, but I appreciated that it wasn't some lovely peppy girl voice, because Yui Horie's voice is loving awful and emulating that in English would've been a bad decision. Old Chie could at points be the best actor in the cast and at other points the worst, but at the end of the day it was at least not a lovely voice that would at random times hit a screechy high-pitched voice. Fitzgerald is a good voice actress, but the only tomboy she was ever good at was Alkaid in .hack GU because even if it was due to inconsistent voice quality, it was genuine acting and something different.

Same goes for Old Teddie, Dave Wittenberg, who Sam Riegel does not do a good job of replacing. Wittenburg had fantastic cadence to do a character like Teddie without his voice becoming overbearing, but whenever he has to get sad his voice doesn't just stay the same like Riegel's but makes a pouty voice, it actually dropped the cute act and got genuinely depressed. Remember Shadow Teddie in Vanilla? He sounded loving amazing, I could not believe it was the same actor.

A lot of the problems with these new actors is they are either directed to be insanely overbearing or are just flat and mediocre. The best voice Naoto ever had was Mary Elizabeth McGlynn in the anime, who they never recasted her as, probably because she sounded older than she was, but that sort of voice works well for that character. Her voice never hit that really awkward delivery her original VA had a lot of or that annoying whispy tone that Arem goes into voicing her now.

You, the player, gets to choose whether Chidori lives or dies. So you can let her stay dead if you so desire.
