It only took one turn for the car to arrive, disembark Carlos, and Carlos to get into his mech ready to pilot it out the next turn. Based on that, I expect if the car ends its turn in a hex with the acolyte, it'll be able to move the following turn with the acolyte on board.

Carlos was exceptionally highly motivated.

My only concern with backing out too far too fast is that I don't know how long it'll take the car to pick up the ComStar Acolyte. If the car needs to sit still for a turn, that will make it a much more tempting target.

Well, the car is not 'Mech height. With the hills in front of the dome, the Red Shadow Hawk doesn't have LoS to it from it's current position. There's also the wreckage of three destroyed vehicles (One violently via ammo cookoff) littering up the front in front of the dome, so he probably can't get a good look even if he knows he needs to.

I can go somewhere like 0913 facing south, which leaves me not too great withdrawl options on the following turn, but it does mean if the Red guy rounds the corner and faces the car to investigate, he'll give me a rear armor shot. (I mean yea I guess mechs don't need to face stuff to investigate them but thematically it fits). I just can't risk firing many weapons since I have to ride a delicate heat line which a Plasma hit would totally ruin, I reallllly do not want to lose 1 MP at this point.

Given that a battletech "turn" is sort of a nebulous handwavey concept anyway, I'm fine with that much happening in one turn. Especially given the scenario, and your general inclination to present scenarios that are difficult due to the size, composition, and intelligence of the enemy, rather than some random poo poo the players can't do anything about taking too long or whatever.

If the players never, ever get a solid, unambiguous victory, then eventually things just get too grim. And one hallmark of this particular round has been excellent coordination by the players, and few if any missed turns. I think even if they've gotten some really good lucky dice rolls, they've also earned whatever victory they manage here.

Piratetech was a glorious total victory, at least. This is roughly on that level in terms of group coordination and tactics, so bravo guys. Keep it up! You've got worse problems to deal with, so at this point if things don't go your way you still have put up a hell of a fight. It's going to be hard to pick an MVP this time.

There needs to be a mission where the players are on experimental battle amphetamines that make them 1/1 pilots but the drawback is they hallucinate the enemy mechs moving to different hexes and the players have to guess which is real and which isn't.

Nah, the Death Commando campaign way back when is the cause of the current Capellan Legendary Beast squad. Apostate was referring to the Redjack Ryan pirate one two missions ago where they were able to bust out some sweet wrasslin' moves in that amazing Wrestlemech.

The Death Commando missions were also a pretty good set of player victories, including a DFA by a mech with no jets. Really the players all do rather well, even if sometimes the coordination is hard and/or mistakes are made and/or turns are missed. Even when the players get trounced (elemental death squad in space) it's still a great read. Luthien remains one of my favorite fights because of how high the stakes were and how narrowly the players made it out of that one.

Behind Enemy Lines: Tactical Update 17

“Holding back in a battle is foolish. When, exactly, did we become the two-hundred fifties?” Inside his own neurohelmet, Zhu Que’s voice was deep and powerful, reverberating from somewhere deep within his chest. He let his volume build until he felt it in his bones—well aware that his transmission would strip all inflection from his words and leave them cold and robotic. Unlike most people, he loved the sound of his own voice. Zhu Que was still more than happy to chew a little scenery even when the audience was himself alone.

Tianlong,” he queried, “the Prefectorate Guard did a terrible job softening up the enemy, when we return to society we should issue a complaint to the Director about their constant interference in our project. Because of them, the enemy likely to escape without serious loss. Permission to cut loose?”

There was a brief delay, just long enough to let Zhu Que stew in his cramped cockpit. His secondary monitors flickered as the beetle-shaped Maelstrom toggled its ECM into a wide-area suppression, likely in an attempt to cut his communications. His eyes focused on that purple-and-white form as though trying to bore through its armor with his stare alone. The Union-class DropShip’s transmission was too powerful and too brief for the enemy’s ECM to be truly effective.

“Heavenly lance, control says: permission granted. Do not embarrass us.”

Zhu Que didn’t bother to reply, letting his hands slip from the controls for a moment to crack his dark knuckles. He could keep his Shadow Hawk upright and in motion with thought alone, but when the shooting started again he wanted his hands as responsive as the machine he piloted. He reached out, switching back to his primary communications circuit.

“Lance,” he broadcast, “disengage your engine power limiters. We have gotten permission to push our machines to their operational limits. Command doesn’t care how many of the enemy escapes—that shame will be borne by the Prefectorate Guard—but I want to prove our value. Pick a target and cripple it, I want one of those pilots captured alive.”

“It is about time!” Xuan Wu’s emotionless-sounding voice crackled. Zhu Que mirrored her untransmitted elation “Throttling down the power of a 385 engine is such a waste.”

“It’s time to show them some color,” Bai Hu cut in, nearly interrupting Xuan Wu’s broadcast.

“Horse horse tiger tiger,” Qing Long’s laughter didn’t translate, transmitting as a series of clicks. She was always quick to judge Bai Hu’s language harshly. “That was almost the appropriate use for that, wind flower snow moon.”

Bai Hu’s radio crackled noisily as he growled like his namesake, like Qing’s laughter the radio wasn’t sure what to transmit and sent only noise. “I do not care, as long as we can break these turtle eggs.”

“There, see?” Qing Long couldn’t resist the last word. “I knew you would get one right eventually.”

The rest of you may want to avoid ending your turns standing next to hills if you can avoid it, because PTN has made a very clear demonstration of what ACEs can do with physical attacks. Consider putting kicks / punches in contingencies about enemies landing next to you.

You may get ripped apart, but White Ranger is already dangerously close to a CT breach, so keeping pressure up on them should at least force them to back out and keep their hilariously expensive machine intact. It's probably a tossup between one of you getting taken alive and one of them pulled out of their wrecked prototype for who is going to have a worse stay at the Warcrimes Hotel.
