Interesting fact – the voice actor that Big Finish originally hired to play Straxus is the only actor ever to be fired from Big Finish. Briggs knew another voice actor, Nickolas Grace, who came in and nailed the role, so that’s one of the reasons they kept writing him in.

Also, J-Ru, I noticed something. Your review list on the first page is missing The Unicorn and the Wasp…

Nickolas Grace was a delightfullly slimy Sheriff of Nottingham, back in the day

It's not Big Finish, but someone is doing a Robin of Sherwood audio drama that comes out next year. They got a good chunk of the original cast back, too.

That's a great goddamn game though, I'm getting near the end now and unless the story goes off a cliff it's going to be a refreshingly quality part of the Alien franchise.

After beating Colonial Marines last week, I had no choice but to play Isolation to get the taste out of my brain. I'm very happy by my choice, but I can only play in short bursts because I just can't take the tension. And yeah, the medical section is where the game jumps up a notch both in quality and difficulty.

The kiddo was watching me Sunday morning play it while she was on her Mom's computer, and it actually led to a interesting discussion about scary movies (she's seen Jaws and wants to make the leap to horror movies, though she's a little young so we're showing her Supernatural and I might show her Warm Bodies during a snow day this winter), where we talked about the differences in fear between Alien: Isolation (tension), Five Nights at Freddy's (jump scares), and Midnight (sometimes nothing can be scarier).

Line of the morning as she watched me play - "that vent is dripping, Cobi. Why is that vent dripping? WHY IS THAT VENT DRIPPING?!?"

I know I lurk far more than I post here, but I'm doing something next month I think some of you might be interested in.

I'm hosting a Doctor Who burlesque show in Washington D.C.

It's called Wibbly Wobbly Pastie Wastie... Stuff, and it's at a lovely bar/hotel called the Bier Baron.

I'll be hosting as the 4th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Doctors (as long as I can get all the costumes together in time), and we'll have acts based on Clara, K-9, and Captain Jack Harkness.

I'm a little sad that we couldn't find anyone willing to do a Zygon porno number.

Is there any interest in a possible goon meet? I'm pretty sure Cobi isn't too far away, but please let me know if any of you go!

But I'll pass the word to some friends in Montgomery County who might be interested.

There's no way I could walk away from that experience with dry pants. I had to stop playing the game maybe two hours in because the glitchy motion sensor was giving me mini panic attacks each time it went nuts. I'd end up spending half an hour just crouching down some corridor trying to make zero noise and then EEP EEP EEP.

I'm a Doctor Who noob who was convinced by a friend to watch it a little while ago, just finished the David Tennant/Russell T. Davies era. I wasn't sure if I should continue on since I'd heard such mixed things about the Moffat years, but after looking over some of Jerusalem's reviews(not a knock against anyone else, just don't have time to go through this whole thread), I guess if a hardcore fan likes them more than the Davies stuff overall, I should give them a chance, as I do really like Steve Moffat's writing usually. Though I guess I'm at odds with a lot of big fans' opinions already, as I actually kind of enjoyed the Rose/Doctor pseudo-romance despite the fact that I hate shipping generally, and I did perceive it as being reciprocal in a way, with the Doctor simply realizing he could never get involved in something like that for real because he's an over 900 year old alien who may never die of old age at all. Also, I loved the flamboyant craziness of the John Simm Master, but maybe that's because my "Doctor Who" equivalent as an American growing up were Batman cartoons and movies, where the villains are all incredibly flamboyant. But whatever the reason, seeing John Simm chew the scenery like a motherfucker was great.

Even Moffat's detractors generally agree that his first season running the show was amazing, so you absolutely should keep going. It's only from season six on that opinions became more mixed.

And FYI, liking the Ten/Rose stuff may put you in the minority in this thread, but probably not in the minority of fandom in general.

It's funny, there are several things that seem controversial that I liked in spite of my usual lack of interest in such things. I also am not particularly religious, but I actually did like the episodes that delved into the "Lonely God" interpretation of the Doctor, particularly the payoff of that in The Waters of Mars.

I’m there with you – I would have loved to have seen an entire episode dedicated to “The Time Lord Victorious” with a horrible backlash at the end, rather than the instant karma of the commander’s suicide snapping Ten out of it.

Yeah, that would've been interesting, it definitely could've used more fleshing out. Though I figured what happened at the end of the episode contributed to his going on a time-spanning bender where he has sex with Queen Elizabeth and obsessing over his death was partly in response to his experience at the end of that episode, which is why the Ood show up right around that time to tell him his time is almost up. So I didn't see him as being completely "better" after his bout of megalomania

Destiny of the Daleks. Watch as Douglas Adams' hope for the series crumble and fade from the very first moment and he begins his season-long trend of the Doctor and Romana commenting on how idiotic the stories are ("Oh look, rocks!"). Also totally getting Davros' characterization wrong and forgetting that Daleks aren't robots. Which may be Terry Nation's fault, and thus much more embarrassing.

I actually got this from Amazon along with the Sapphire and Steel DVD set this morning; I know its one of those all-time classic ones so there's not a need to say it but its very good

Sapphire and Steel is also good; it was ATVs answer to Doctor Who and while its similar in lots of ways (serial format, no fixed location, only two regular characters and thus reliant on a guest cast, production budget of approximately 50p) but its definitely not a copy of the thing and has its own charms. I've not watched it all yet only the first few parts of the first story (its a six-disc set and I like spreading out these sort of things, gives the cliffhanger some bite) so it might get worse, I dunno. It is a slow and not particularly action packed and most of the stories seem to be six parters, which might work against it if you're not into those sort of things
