Think timb will announce any new Macbook Pros/Airs at the event on the 9th? Or is it just going to be iPhone?

probably no MacBooks since they have been just silently updating the Pros and Air for a while and there's no rumours or indication of redesigns

maybe if they added USB-C it would be worth an announcement though

Yeah, I'm in the market for a new laptop, so I wanted to get the best. I'm guessing April will be new Macbook Pros/Airs (no retina though, lol)

he's pointing out how the macbook is smaller and lighter and slower and more expensive than the macbook air.

it's a p bad name, really, though i imagine the mba will get phased out sooner rather than later in favor of it. but who knows, you can still buy a non-retina 13" mbp

macbook air became the consumer laptop in 2011 when apple stopped making macbooks. when apple redesigned the macbook air in 2015 for retina, they dropped the descriptor that was only meaningful between 2008 and 2011 when they sold three laptops: traveler, consumer, professional

macbook airs are only still sold for the same reason pre-retina macbook pros and imacs are: to burn up old parts stock and to continue to make higher-percent profits off older designs that don't need logistics retooling, because people will still buy them for some reason, be they price conscious, scared by change, or mentally deficient

it's gonna be like the first time aroudn on the air: expensive cut down version that basically announces to everyone "this is the future of computing: note the lack of all your favorite features and that it's expensive and slow" while still selling the cheap and fast but kinda dated-looking older ones

then they'll make it cheaper and faster and phase out the old ones

when other companies make concept footage of made-up products like the microsoft origami or courier apple actually ships their concept oporudcs

remember that they also made a macbook that looked just like the macbook pro's do today (but thicker obviously). then they pushed that design to the Macbook Pros and made the macbook plastic again. that's weirder than having a macbook proper that's lighter than the macbook air

the macbook airs cover a very important price point and they will be around for a while till they drive the price of the MacBooks down.

The fact that, to this day, people think Apple when they think of Adobe products boggles the mind since stuff like Premier and Aftereffects runs like a tire fire covered in dogshit even when you have a beefy graphics workstation, let alone some Mac that's going to be outperformed by a Chromebook in about a year

Same goes for Solidworks really, if not more so. TFW you start getting pretty high up there in the vertices count and complex operations begin to take for freaking ever

No, and as far as I can recall the vast majority of Autodesk's stuff isn't natively available on OSX either

this is bad, but autodesks software is bad too

always bootcamp i guess

edit: looks like only Autocad, and then Maya/Alias/Mudbox are available natively on osx- lol, p much only stuff for people making presentation videos of finished products made by actual engineers
