Yeah but on the other hand the flywheel is over in one wet thump. The DEATH SPIRAL lets you watch as it saws through what used to be your wrist.

Probably because it takes a ton of energy to heat up aluminum, why let it harden if you need to move it to another plant, especially one that may have the gear to forge the parts but not to melt aluminum on a large enough scale.

I work for an aluminum die caster. We have furnaces and melt ingot so it was never anything we were really considering but a couple years ago when natural gas was much higher mostly to amuse myself I worked out the cost of molten deliveries and it would've been cheaper at least for the first melt. The big problem is what to do with your scrap, and the fact that you're relying on 100% reliability on your deliveries. I'm also not really sure what you do if you break a machine or something and have to hold a bunch of molten metal in inventory without having a big furnace to put it in.

But that might just be the limit of my imagination. Here's a DOE project:

http://energy.gov/sites/prod/files/2013/11/f4/itm_delivery.pdf

Maybe in the glorious future the highways will be bumper to bumper with trucks full of molten aluminum. I think one spilled in Wisconsin a few years ago.

(Finspang, Sweden) - In 1682 Häfla Hammerforge was founded on the Häfla Stream in Finspang, Sweden. The factory began making iron in 1683 churning out 45 tons yearly. In 1792, the level was increaased to 90 tons yearly. In 1846 Häfla works received unrestricted manufacturing rights. During the years 1861 - 1900 the works ran a rolling-mill at the Middle works. All activites at Häfla ceased in 1924. Swedish Technical Museum declared the Hammer Forge a historical monument. In 1990 Häfla Hammer forge was declared a national memorial.

During the last few years, enthusiasts have slowly restored the hammer. This 333 year old Hammermill was brought back to life on Wednesday. Iron was forge for the first time in over a decade. The video below shows the 1543 pound hammer at work.
