I work for an aluminum die caster. We have furnaces and melt ingot so it was never anything we were really considering but a couple years ago when natural gas was much higher mostly to amuse myself I worked out the cost of molten deliveries and it would've been cheaper at least for the first melt. The big problem is what to do with your scrap, and the fact that you're relying on 100% reliability on your deliveries. I'm also not really sure what you do if you break a machine or something and have to hold a bunch of molten metal in inventory without having a big furnace to put it in. But that might just be the limit of my imagination. I think one spilled in Wisconsin a few years ago.
