I thought I should post this here, since it's probably the most relevant venue: The first video from this debate has been doing the rounds on right-wing/anti-SJ Reddit and Tumblr circles, with your typical common-or-garden "YEAH SOCK IT TO THOSE SJWS!" commentary. The full debate is worth a watch, mostly because the first two "proposition" bods are Brendan O'Neill arguing that transphobia is as laudable as fighting for gay rights, and British arch-conservative shock jock columnist Peter Hitchens being comically evil.

That'd be too clever, even if a bullshit point. The "joke" is about SJWs being against CSA flag and CSA reverence.

Eh, since WWII the far-right cooperates pretty well, actually. Maybe there's a little sniping back and forth, but it's not really comparable to what you see on the left.

Roger Griffin wrote a really interesting article on this subject called "From slime mould to rhizome: an introduction to the groupuscular right."

Yud's story is basically our brains are big in order to gently caress each other over - to outsmart each other in a battle of wits.
What is dumb about this is that your genes are not only found in you, but also, proportionally, in those similar to you - that is, your siblings etc. That is, if your gene helps your tribe, it will lead to your genes spreading even if you yourself will end up not making more babies individually. However, if your tribe is more healthy, the kids you have will also have better survival chances. (You can think of it like this: in the long run, the groups with one guy who can make weapons due to his nerd brain genes will prevail over those who don't have that gene in their midst, so nerd brain genes will be selected for even though they may not directly, in the short term, be conductive to the owner's likelihood of procreating.)
I wish that I was misreading that he literally feels that because computer programming involves writing a bunch of "unique" statements and functions etc, that any and all programmers have "invented" more unique things than any other great thinker or inventor of all of history - combined.

And then, he feels that people who invent useful tools for "the masses" are not "evolutionarily rewarded" (aka :a2m: gettin' laid all day erry day because of his abnormally large brain!) and is thus super butt-hurt that women do not clamor over his penis, because of an especially-efficient recursive statement, etc.. And because he has invened an entire garbage computer programming language he has invented EVERYTHING so everybody needs to just please touch his penis.

Actually Eliezer also invented a garbage programming language, but it's more vapourware than Moldbug's.

quote:

Flare will be the first annotative programming language. Annotative programming, if done properly, has the potential to be the successor to object-oriented programming, in the same way that object-oriented programming succeeded procedural programming, procedural programming succeeded assembly language, and assembly language succeeded raw hexadecimal numbers

That is the most words I've ever seen someone waste trying to say "next big thing."

E: also I took a look over his document and I legit cannot tell how his new category differs from a well patterned oop system. Like, he's basically suggesting "the Unity game engine as a programming language." Unless I've missed some key point in there.

He actually dedicates an entire paragraph of his programming language overview to explaining that multiple GUIs should be able to handle the code in different ways, and never once mentions compiling or compilers.

Also he basically spends the entire section describing a hybrid of the Composite and Visitor programming patterns. Which I have actually implemented in my own little Java game engine, it's not even hard.

I think he just doesn't understand the difference between a language and a program.

But none of those ways of programming "succeeded" any of the others, they're all still used for different purposes. This guy talks about programming languages as if they're the row of gradually more human-like ape-men used by the lay public as a symbol for evolution (which, like programming, does not work that way).
