Other than their FTO and the supervisors we don't really talk to the new guys unless they do something really stupid or really awesome. If we hire someone whose previously been a cop were a lot easier on them.

My brother-in-law was relieved to discover that the department that just hired him is now looking for an additional 7-10 guys so he will only be low(est) man on the totem pole for about a month before a whole new crop of rookies comes in.

I live in a Small City, and I was recently in a hit and run. I filed with the police. If someone else was in a hit and run that night, how do they verify that the two accidents were related?

The police could verify based on witness testimony. Say you were hit at location X, Y by a silver pickup truck with a NY license plate and a second car was hit at location X-1, Y by a silver pickup truck with a NY license plate they would (hopefully) identify the pattern. But in the grand scheme of things I'm not sure how much it matters unless they actually caught the driver. Otherwise it's just two hit and run reports.
