Or remotely detect it and in some way (I'm deliberately avoiding the word 'push' here) inform the app after a disproportionate amount of crashes occur on one page, enabling the user to click through some form of warning dialogue when attempting to load? The second wouldn't stop all crashes from the content, but it would limit them.

Those things are all possible, but require running a service to share the crash info back after it's extracted from the report.

I whitelist smilies and avatars (since they are small) and force every other gif to go through that library. That helps with performance, since it won't autoload the animation into memory.

I had a patch for that in the past, but abandoned it in favor of something else that was abandoned later as well!

I'd suggest turning off the Forums-wide "Show video embedded in posts with the [video] tag?" setting in your User Control Panel, but it doesn't sound like that'll be especially helpful if it's still crashing. When it fails do you get an error code or any other relevant info?

Pretend you're a relatively low-level cog in the Apple machine, or whatever employer is writing checks for these reviewers. Your job is to review apps and find anything that might not fit into the App Store ethos for the most mundane reason...any reason, really. Your job is to bit a nitpicker and there's a superior somewhere in your chain of command who cares about what you find and how efficiently you find it. Did Bob, in the next seat over, find that goatse? No, he missed that poo poo, because Bob is lazy. But you're not, so you're gonna grind hard through these subforums and OH MY GOD WHAT IS THAT MAN DOING TO HIS ANUS Boom, rejected.
