The govt has been taking plenty of hits. Housing, economy faltering, that ponytail thing, etc. It just doesn't seem to effect polls. I'm not sure John Key can lose an election, its more about how long he wants to be PM.

We've pledged to take in an additional 500 in the 2017-2018 years where we hope the crisis will have already resolved itself and there won't be refugees seeking those spots. Additionally, these spots will be filled using the same criteria as the current refugee process, which sees spots go unused if not enough refugees make it through the screening process. If the red triangle really is supposed to represent a meeting house then that's cool and I'd support it. Unfortunately according to John it would literally be illegal to include it in case it beat one of his tacky weetbix ones.

I don't think it's honest to point to polls of the long list pre-peakmentum. In the RadioLIVE one it was third from the bottom of the list, matching the position it ended up getting. It should be compared to the others in the shortlist now that it's received some actual publicity.

Replace the white with green and it might have something going for it. Too much Red, White and Blue, these colours don't run vibe. Still firmly in the "gently caress No" and keeping the current flag camp.

Other fun statistics: the Black Koru flag was 33rd on First Preference and 2.3% in the top 4, but was selected. If you look at the full results you see other wonderful statistics like how the "Maori Jack" is highly placed in both first/first four preference but is also the top ranking least preferred. The fact is that outside of a select few designs (ie: the Kyle Lockwood designs) people were spoilt for choice and that would have caused selection problems. Now that people understand the Red Peak design I think it will be much more popular.

Note that it's an interim ban while the FLBR reviews its status based on the complaint, it's a standard process that they go through. The book hasn't been banned indefinitely or what have you, and it's unlikely in the extreme that it will be banned outright, it's more likely to be given a restricted classification(which can't go above R18). Most of the books banned outright here are stuff telling you how to commit crimes or kill people.
