I like playing with super light strings but less than 9 and it's a bit too much 9s on a 24" scale is a ton of fun

Can someone point me in the direction of some funky strumming riffs like the main guitar part in I'm Coming Out? I enjoy playing stuff like that I just don't really encounter it in my day to day so I don't know where to go looking for it when I want it.

Bar your g b and thin e string, strum funkily and slide that up one fret as you do, instant funk! Or watch this dude he is awesome: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlnZ05SGvlk

https://instagram.com/p/7RUN1zMoaD/?taken-by=firebad57 You enthusiastic new classical guitarists inspired me to make a goofy practice video. This one is just for fun, but we (in my group Mobius Trio) will often test our memory and "make pieces feel new" by "playing them" in the wrong tuning. Of course, we're not figuring out how to play the piece in the new tuning, we're playing where the notes "were" in the old tuning, but transposed to wherever the new tuning takes them. In this case, I was playing my part in our arrangement of Ravel's String Quartet, but with the guitar in a weeeeird C Minor tuning (think the Koyunbaba tuning, if you know it, but down a whole step). If this sort of thing is just loving stupid, I won't post its like again. Or if you love it, I could post Youtubes of entire pieces/parts in various "wrong" tunings.

Chic, David Bowie's Let's Dance album, Random Access Memories, actually I'm p. sure that's Nile Rodgers on I'm Coming Out come to think of it

The best thing about it was you had an endless amount of potential band members and a huge network of support/bookable shows because of the nature of Church Stuff.

The Jebus circuit was almost a guaranteed career because you didn't really have to be any good and there was a prefabricated infrastructure ready to go. My last band in high school broke up and basically reformed the next week minus me and one other guy as a Christian ska band, and not six months later they were out touring in like ten different states. It was ridiculous.

What is Squier Classic Vibe of the classical guitar world? I'm thinking Yamaha C40 as the bottom, and then Cordoba C5 (i.e. $300-$400) are the CV-level ones?

I think you're pretty much right on those, though from what I've heard students playing lately, I'd recommend saving for a C7 over a C5 over a C3. Some of the C7s my students have sound pretty alright, whereas the others have been hit and miss.

Classical bros: you're all 100% on point. I love it. I've had a little slump because my poor puppy tore her ccl and you know, life gets in the way, but I'm back in practice now. My biggest struggle at the moment is not being able to play finger style bass. I miss it an ungodly amount lately. Every time I listen to a Motown album I weep for what I can no longer sound like.

I feel like I'm missing something obvious That's a kind of two-for-one deal: pivot your wrist on the bridge so you're just slightly muting the strings, and should be able to strum across all six quickly with minimal movement. One of those "economy of motion" things.

I feel like I'm missing something obvious My Weddoes experience on CD is mostly limited to Bizarro, but I've seen them play and know one of the old guitarists reasonably well. Having watched him closely in various bands I feel I can confidentially tell you their super-secret technique, which is 'thrash the gently caress out of it'.

I've been practicing sweep picking by slowly increasing the speed of my metronome and it seems like every time I practice for an extended period of time I get faster and better. I'd like to avoid having to practice or use a metronome to get better in the future so any tips are welcome. Real talk though, I always thought it was my picking hand that was my problem with 2-3 string sweeps, turns out it's my fretting hand. Who knew.

I was hoping to get some bluetooth or wireless headphones that I can plug into my amp so I can play at night. My current wired headphones are falling apart and I hate the wire getting in the way of playing. I am not concerned with super high audio quality, but am trying to keep my budget below $100 if possible. Anyone have a set up like this? Any suggestions for a set of headphones? I would probably prefer over-ear type as apposed to in-ear, but I am open to suggestions.

Bluetooth might get laggy, what you can do though is get a good pair of headphones and modify them. A good starting point are the Superlux HD681's for amazing low end reproduction. Replace the ear pads with some AKG velour pads, trim the cable and search for cable mod guides for this model. You can find simple instructions for adding a jack on the side of the cups to simply adding heatshrink, strain relief and cable braiding after resizing the excessively long cable. If you add a 3.5mm 1/8" jack onto the phones themselves then you can use pocket bluetooth transmitter/recievers to try out wireless but still have the option of plugging in a 3.5mm to 6.35mm cable for wired connections as needed. Do make sure to replace the pads though because the stock ones are physically painful after 20 minutes. I used AKG240 pads because they fit perfectly and are comfortable for > 3 hours or until your ears get too sweaty.

Today I encountered a 100ish year old Washburn all-rosewood guitar It played pretty nicely and is in fully respectable condition for being that old. Sounds real good too, definitely among the best ~tonez~ for an instrument at $500 asking price. It was tuned down a step which I speculate is for strength reasons but still.

I feel like jazz chords are like when I learned German in high school in that there were so many close-enough cognates that if I just said English words but with a German accent it pretty much got the job done. Taking a break from Funk to screw around with Bossa again and ughnnn I'm so bad

Dead serious I'm terrified of jazz. I always have been but I'm only okay with admitting it now. I was listening to A Love Supreme earlier and I just can't. It's loving insane. I don't even understand how that kind of musical energy and confidence comes together. Nope. No thanks. It's mystical voodoo three headed snake witchcraft sell your soul to the devil and convert your feelings into abstract antimatter forms nonsense. I really love jazz.
